HI All! This is a common question. It would be convenient if there were a formula to use. For example, I've heard that you need one carat total weight side stones for a one carat center. Is this true? Well, it might be. If you were using three round diamonds, it could be a nice proportion. Using one carat total weight trills next to a one carat round would be ridiculous- the sides would be WAY too large. We use the stones themselves for the template of the ring. We are fortunate in that we get to select from a fairly vast inventory of goods. Here's a tray of matching stones ( and some not) This particular cutter specializes in cushion diamonds. Here's a few of the unique pairs we looked at today: Cushions: And this really unique pair of "Step Cut Pear Shape" like beauties What kind of center stones would work with these? Over the next few days we can try a few different shapes- if anyone has a suggestion....

DL, that ring is EXACTLY the type of setting I was describing to Blondie on the I Purchased a Bezel-Set Band thread. I've never really seen it done before. Huh. If you get a chance, please, would you mind posting the same pic on her thread? As she turns over ideas in her head, I think it may help her to visualize... Thank you! I'm dying to see those pear sides next to some different centers. I'd love to purchase them and hang onto them until I found the right center to match (just like me to do things "arse" backwards)! Ooops, I didn't say that. Sorry. But, before SOMEONE snags them, it would be great fun to see them paired with different centers. DL, DO SOMETHING! MAKE THEM YOURS. (We don't have a pear smiley, so I substituted a banana). Also, I very much like the .92 cushion pair. Hummm, TRAYS of matching stones...
