WELL THANK YOU,..... HAVE YOU EVER SEEN MY COUNTRY ON TV? WE HAVE MANY TOURISTS WORLDWIDE,....
SPEAKING OF JEWELRY IN CRO,..... I HAVE TO ADMITT THAT I AM NOT HAPPY WITH WHAT I CAN CHOOSE HERE,.... IMAGINE WHAT THEY SELL! 1CT G COLOUR, VS COST HERE 15000 $!!!!! AND THEY ARE NOT ORIGINAL JEWELRY,.... IT IS LIKE THEY MAKE THE SAME IN EVERY STORE,.....
WHAT IS INTERESTING AND TERRIBLE AT THE SAME TIME, IS THAT ONE JEWELER WHO HAS LONG TRADITION, HE DIDNT KNOW WHAT HE SELLS,.... i ASKED HIM ABOUT COLOUR AND CLARITY AND HE WAS LIKE WHAT AM  TALKING ABOUT,..... NOW THAT ANSWER MADE ME REALIZED THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG,....

Hi Zel,
Yes, in fact I have heard great things about Croatia!
I've dreamed of visiting Zagreb......

In terms of what type of jewelry I saw in France, Holland, Belgium, Italy, Denmark...countries I've been to: There's practically NO selection of diamonds above .50cts.
I don't recall seeing a 3 carat stone other than in a museum.......

My feeling is that Europeans treasure diamonds are treasured- but I think the perception is that they're out of people's reach.
When I've gone to jewelry stores in Europe I felt that was how they made everyone feel.
The prices on things were really high, and the quality was noticeably poor on diamond jewelry I saw all over.
It's not a surprise you're telling us that's what you're finding......

I think jewellery in the Uk is rubbish unless you can afford to shop in the very expensive London stores.
My local jewellers have nothing original on show and their diamonds seem small and expensive for what they are.
Since I bought my ring off David I`ve lost count of the number of people who`ve commented about it.  It`s so plain and simple but the quality shouts at you and the diamond speaks for itself.
In fact one of my colleagues has already said when it`s her 25th wedding anniversary later this year she was planning on having a new ring from her hubby and thought she`d seen nice ones here but when I logged onto DBL at work, she was amazed !
Yet another UK convert David !

Diamonds are like people, put them under a microscope and you`ll always see a flaw but hold them up to the Sun and each and every one is beautiful.

Many jewelry stores that you can find easily have un-original jewelry as well. I know you can't find colored diamonds anywhere even close to where I live (closest person probably is David in NY)

A lot of jewelry stores have definitely picked up on the 3 stone rings, and now have them offered in a couple of styles, and try to pass them off as "original". And if you were to get something "custom" (like pick out a specific diamond and have them set it, or make your own ring)   is INSANELY expensive!

Hey Zel, David was in Antwerp just a few months ago! I'm sure he'll tell you all about it! Actually I think he may have done a thread about it! I'll see if I can find it and post a link here for you!

Hi Everyone,
I have been to Antwerp- and it's really no diamond shopper's paradise- by any stretch of the imagination!
Recently, I was in Amsterdam.
That's where the modern "diamond business" started.
But today, there's only superficial diamond cutting going on there.
IN terms of what the stores were showing...Junk, and crazy high prices.

When we asked about why they have no selection of diamonds, the saleslady told us how Dutch people think it's "Vulgar" to wear large diamonds over 1.00ct ( with no thought to my fiancee who was standing there wearing a lovely 1.14carat)

I'm thinking  "Sure- show people crappy looking .60ct diamonds for $4000 and who in their right mind would even ask for a 1.00?"

THANK YOU!!!!

Actually, we've heard some "horror" stories from Hatton Garden- the "Jewelry Distict" og London.
Many abuses of GIA's name for example......

There is certainly a lot of rubbish on sale in the UK, and I reaffirm tht belief every time I browse in a shopping mall. Most have three or four allegedly high end jewellers and one or two 'discount' versions. Quality can be poor, and prices high. We aren't thought to know any better, is the conclusion I've reached.

However, one person's junk is another person's treasure. I have a 1:00 EC ering which my husband bought in the UK. I wear it with my custom platinum and diamond wedding ring.

Hi Zel!

It was Amsterdam, Holland where that happened.  I met David there that day and can confirm that the selection and prices were astonishing - in a bad way!  I didn't get to see as much as David did but I was shocked at what I did see.  I expected so much better from Amsterdam.

You will not pay any American taxes as an out of country buyer.  You will simply have to pay customs taxes at your end when the package is delivered.  You will need to look into that as these vary wildly from country to country.

I know you will be thrilled with whatever you decide and it's lovely to see you here all the way from Croatia!

I too would be interested in opinions on Antwerp. DH had relatives who lived there - they left him a small inheritance and he has kept it to buy me a diamond when we visit there next year. I know this means a lot to him, as he has fond childhood memories of the relatives and the location. Not a huge amount of cash, so this is more sentimental / symbolic than anything else, but still, I don't want to waste it on something not so nice. (And it's non negotiable - I cant divert the $ to my own diamond projects fund, no point in even going there!)

Although I don't live too far from Antwerp, I haven't been in person.  I have heard several stories that don't make me want to go either!  I really need to go check it out for myself though.  Maybe this summer sometime..............I'll keep you posted!

I'd be interested in your thoughts. We could meet there! Now that would be fun. Who else lives within reasonable travelling distance of Antwerp?

I suspect that I like the idea of it better than I'll like the reality, but I'm prepared to give it a go. My old room mate just moved to the Netherlands and I'll be visiting her soon. I could do a kind of advance party recce of Antwerp before my trip with DH.

Ah. Haven't a clue. She only moved there last month. Not very helpful! She did tell me, but it was at the leaving party and my memory of that is a little, um, hazy?

I'll email and check.

Hi Everyone!!
My opinion was that Belgium has great chocolates- but not really a great place to go diamond shopping-either at our lever, or retail.
Not nearly as pushy opr aggressive as 47th Strret here in NYC- but then again there was only a tiny fraction of the selection of 47th st as well..........

Zel- the company you were talking about has a very confusing site- with a lot of things we find to be very misleading to consumers.

For example
Quote
A purchase of a loose diamond in !@#$%^& is always accompanied by an international certificate of the Diamond High Council ( HRD ) or the international Gemological Institute ( IGI ). The GIA certificates which are mainly used in the USA, are less common in Antwerp, Europe, but can also be delivered.

All of these certificates are internationally recognised.

The above statement makes it sound as though people don't really use GIA in Belgium.
FALSE. If a dealer in Antwerp wants to get his price for a D/Internally flawless diamond- or any high quality diamond- he's going to need that GIA report.

Nor are the secondary labs' "certificates" recognized by dealers internationally.

To me, a seller making such claims has just lost all credibility........

i have a k si1 ideal cut stone.  looks plenty white to me, no side stones of coarse, just a center masterpiece.  no one will know unless you offer the information.  mine is 0.925 carat.  i wouldn't trade it for anything.  i think the cut makes all the difference.  i think go cut all the way.
