Talk about guts!

I can't tell you how much I admire the cutter of this diamond.
It's a 4.02 D/Internally Flawless Emerald Cut.
When first finished, about two months ago, it was a 4.07 D/Internally Flawless.
ITEM #: R2091
Emerald Cut Diamond, Loose

WEIGHT: 4.07ct
SHAPE: Emerald Cut
COLOR: D
CLARITY: IF
MEASUREMENTS: 11.40 x 7.77 x 5.28 mm
TOTAL DEPTH: 68.0%
TABLE SIZE: 55%
POLISH: VG
SYMMETRY: VG
FLUORESCENCE: NONE
GIA REPORT #: 15768102

Why in the world re-cut this spectacular diamond?
Look at the stats from the GIA report on the re-submitted diamond.

Emerald Cut Diamond, Loose

  WEIGHT: 4.02ct
  SHAPE: Emerald Cut
  COLOR: D
  CLARITY: IF
  MEASUREMENTS: 11.40 x 7.76 x 5.09 mm
  TOTAL DEPTH: 65.6%
  TABLE SIZE: 55%
  POLISH: EX
  SYMMETRY: EX
  FLUORESCENCE: NONE
  GIA REPORT #: 15768102

For those who don;t see the difference- the diamond has lost .05cts- and gained.....well, now the Polish and Symmetry are BOTH graded EXCELLENT by GIA, up from Very Good......
We'll try to get new photos up tomorrow......

Hey Kath, It's not going to look substantially different than it did when I took these photos, and the video, back in June.....

I`m sure i`d have a nervous breakdown if I had to do his job. How many years does it take to become such a skilled craftsperson David ?
Somehow I can`t see anybody giving a learner cutter " diamonds to practise on " or do they ? I guess they have to learn their skills some way and some how but how ?
Imagine knowing you`re working on a diamond worth $0000000 and one wrong cut ...... doesn`t bear thinking about. Do they have to be insured against such a happening ?
So many many questions and I`d love the chance to actually talk to someone with this magnificent skill.

Diamonds are like people, put them under a microscope and you`ll always see a flaw but hold them up to the Sun and each and every one is beautiful.

Well, I guess you all showed GIA!  It was just too close to let it go I guess.  Kudos to the MASTER cutter!

And, now, how does this impact the price of this PERFECT gem?

 david

So if we won't really be able to see the difference in the pictures after the re-cut why did the cutter dedo it?  Just curious...  Will it increase the value?
