Some of you may have heard about the Star of Stanley Ho by now. The back story: Its a 218-carat D-color Flawless cushion shape that was unveiled a couple months back. Its on display at the Grand Lisboa in Macau...

Beverly Hills, CA (August 17, 2007)Renowned jeweler and diamond collector, Robert Mouawad, has sold the largest, flawless, cushion diamond in the world. The splendid diamond, named “The Star of Stanley Ho, Grand Lisboa, Macau” weighs 218.08 carats graded by the Gemological Institute of America, as a D-IF with excellent polish and symmetry.

Robert Mouawad says, "Each diamond is unique and has its own personality traits. The carat weight, quality grade and the immortal character are all factors that contribute to the overall beauty of a stone, but it is the human touch from the rough to polished stage that unveils its beauty and mystique.” Mouawad continues, “it was a distinct privilege to be a part of this diamond’s history and I am delighted to turn its legacy over to the next owner.”

Now my question... in this video, they mention Steve Wynn's aquiring of a 231-carat pear-shaped diamond, which will be on display at the Wynn casino across the street from Stanley Ho's. Has anyone heard about this?  Huh?

First...welcome Ryan.

Secondly, CDI members,  we in no way, shape or form can let such a magnificent diamond spend its days with a name like "The Star of Stanley Ho."  It is just wrong! (unless my name was Mrs. Stanley Ho and then I would deal with it.)

SO, I offer this challenge to Awestruck, because she is a naming queen, and others to give this deserving diamond an unofficial name.

We can vote once the contenders are in.  Hey, not to highjack Ryan's thread, but this could be my own contest.  I am not sure what the winner will win except the knowledge that they gave this diamond it pride back!

LOL I must admit GG calling this the " star of Stanley Ho " makes it sound like the dish of the day from a Chinese restaurant ....
This beauty really IS a star, big, bright, one of a kind and never to be forgotten and never to be found again.
I`d name it after a woman who did more for diamonds than anybody else ....
She coined the immortal line which De Beers have used for years and which is imprinted in the back of every woman`s mind .. " A diamond is forever "
This woman used it tongue in cheek in her film Some Like it Hot, by saying something along the lines of  "you may lose the man, but the diamond is forever ..."
She sang a famous song about diamonds too ...
" Diamonds are a girl`s best friend " ...... we wouldnt argue with that would we ?
When she went to put her hand and footprints in the concrete outside the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood she actually wanted to dot the " I " in her name with a real diamond but they wouldn`t let her and made her use diamond shaped glass instead.
Style, brilliance, beauty, yet with a depth and clarity few people had.
Marilyn ...... this Diamond should simply be called Marilyn.
The Marilyn Diamond.
Just my thoughts.

Anything is better than the Stanley Ho diamond.  Think of what the kids will call it at school!

I agree, its an awful name. The Marilyn Diamond is actually a great idea -- I'd never thought of that. And as far as I know, it hasn't been taken, either.

If the Wynn part of the story is true they in the near future we're going to be hearing about a very, very large diamond. I'm venturing a bet its a colored diamond. If it were colorless, we would have heard about it already, let alone it being 28 carats larger than the Millennium Star.

Thank you Snoop!   When I was really skinny people would say "Reese Whitherspoon."  HEY I WILL TAKE BABY SPICE!  She is about 100% skinnier than I am at the moment.
Here is the real picture with Owen Wilson.

I am looking frantically through magazines for a picture of Bill Gates.......
Now if anyone could fulfill my diamond dreams, he could.
Whether he would want to is another story.
Actually Stanley Ho has a house just down the street from me, he probably has zillions of houses but this one is for holidays I suppose or when he is coming to collect the takings from the Casino here.   Now I could save him a lot of trouble if only he knew.  Stanley if you read this your neighbour is willing to save you a lot of work.

I wonder if Liz Taylor experienced shrinkage? She never mentioned it in her book...
