What I think I want to do is get this stone:
http://rockdiamond.c...p;action=show_detail

and put it more or less this ring:
http://rockdiamond.c...p;action=show_detail

except with a WG bezel around the center stone instead of prongs.

What do you think?  Any suggestions/ideas?  David said that this will have to be done as a custom ring, which I suppose gives us more options (?)

When David gets time, he's going to make me a movie of the center stone, and take a picture of it next to a G or H stone so that I (and most of all DH) can see the tint.  I think that as soon as DH sees those things, he's going to be satisfied, and I can order the dadgum ring!

Which is important because...

This is starting to invade my subconscious.  Last night, I dreamed that I was in David's office, looking at this stone.  I had evidently flown to NYC just for this purpose, and was a little nervous because, this being a dream and all, I hadn't been able to go by the bank or make any other preparations for my trip.  I kept asking David nervously whether the taxis just took cash, thinking of the paltry $40 I have in my wallet :-).

Also, in the dream, the diamond was orange.  And was cut in 1978.  And had been held as evidence because it had been owned by a crack dealer.  Don't know where THAT came from.  Silly subconscious :-).

But in any case, I need your opinions about this diamond in this setting, because my sound sleep is being seriously disrupted!

Robin, I think it will be divine - truly what could possibly be wrong with your plan?! The stone is a stunner and the setting would be just perfect.  I know, I own it - though my asscher is orangy brown and he setting is all white.  Hey, it's still an asscher and it's bezel set!   Grin  Here's a pic.

You are definitely in the right place for opinions as many of the girls own this very setting style.  I'm thinking you are going to drive us all nuts with expectation!

DJ, seeing your ring is what sold me on the bezel.  I love the clean look of it.

Gorgeous. I LOVE step cuts. And the pink frame? To die for.

Why a bezel instead of prongs? Just curious.

And boy that is a serious subconscious invasion. And to think you it will get better once you order it and start the waiting process! The dreams won't stop but they will turn into fairy princess ones.

Two reasons:

-- I really like bezels, aesthetically.  I like the clean look of them.
-- It will help ameliorate some of my concerns about the height of the ring-- I don't think it will *actually* be much lower, but I think you suggested this so that the prongs won't actually be on the top of the ring (um, did that make sense at all?)

I think it will be beautiful bezel set!  After seeing DJ's ring...that should take all the apprehension out of it!   Cool   You will be thrilled when you receive the ring.  You will ask yourself..."now what was I so unsure of"?  I did exactly that once I received my first DBL ring!!   That Asscher is such a nice size for the price! icon_thumleft  ~Ronda

I see DJ's is a bezel. I had forgotten that it was. This will be killer and a 2ct in a microsetting should be a substantial ring.

OH FUN!!! I am guessing that the bezel would make the ring lay lower.  Me, CH, Ronda, Rhonda have the prongs, and if I compare our style vs. DJ's, ours seems a bit high, but it's not HIGH like some settings you see.

Sometimes I wonder if I should have went w/ bezel, but I am in love w/ my ring.  I'll save the bezel for a FUTURE ring! LOL

Can't wait to see the video of the stones!

AND ACEBRUIN??? Where is the pic of your asscher in question!!!!!!!!

I think it will be absolutely wonderful!  I prefer the look of a bezel set, so I think you're making a great choice.

What a beautiful asscher you picked  Smiley

I can't wait to see the finished product!

It is going to be fantastic!!!  I personally prefer bezels as well in a halo, though many of the lovely ladies here have lovely prong set halos.  My new bezel set halo is coming tomorrow and you will get to see that too!!  This is going to be a stunner Robin!

Sounds pretty awesome to me!! I hope we get to see the video David makes of the possible center stone too. We all live for eye candy around here. Smiley

Congrats on having a plan and taking the steps to getting started!!

Robin, I *LOVE* *LOVE* *LOVE* that Asscher!!!!!!! I think it looks whiter than an L. It's nearly flawless too.....a wonderful quality in an Asscher! The price is nice for the size also! I love your ring idea......that's actually on my wish list too! I think the bezel will be very sleek looking and will look great with all the Asscher facets----look how wonderful DJ's looks! Plus you won't have to worry as much about the stone falling out if it had prongs. Bezels are more secure. Can you tell I'm a Worry Wart type???

Oh and DON'T even get into WEIRD dreams regarding diamond obsession! I think mine takes the cake! A few of you gals know what I'm talkin about!

Oh,  Robin!  How exciting!  It's going to be fabulous!

Just wondering....are you considering having the bezel around the diamond millegrained?

Some people think a millegrained bezel looks more delicate,  and less "metal-y".   I don't know if I agree or not.  What do others think?

Anyhoo,  it's going to be great...can't wait to see it! Smiley

DJ- Yours is milgrain right? But DJ has a milgrained edge. The bezel is smooth. So many decisions.

I don't know yet.  I definitely want milgrain around the edge and on the shank, like DJ's browny-orangey one.  But I don't know about the bezel itself!  I'm thinking that if we milgrained the bezel, it would emphasize the antiquey-ness of the setting, so maybe yes??

Are there any disadvantages?

This is a really good question!  What do y'all think?

I just ordered the ring (YAY!), and apparently it's a moot point about the milgrain on the bezel.  David said they won't do it that way.

So, decision made :-).

Hi Robin & WM

Sorry I'm a little late to the party and the point now redundant but yes mine has the milgrain but not on the bezel.  I was wondering about the bezel and if it would possibly be a risk to the center stone to add milgrain there.  Hmmm.  Obviously there is some concern of some sort if the factory won't do it - I am learning something new everyday.  I love this forum!

Can't wait to see this all done Robin - you are going to have a lot of ladies positively green with envy!

I'd probably go for the millegrained bezel just to sort of "unify" the whole look.   But that's just me.

I recently read about someone having her  sidestones' bezels millegrained 'after the fact' by her local jeweler,  and the pics,  anyway, looked fine.

I wonder why David's people don't want to do it?  Is there something about doing this that we should know?

If this factory said no, there's a good reason for it. They are really, really good.
