I dont know wether this is the right room for this thread but here goes!

I maybe inheriting a Marquise diamond.  Does anybody have one? I am thinking about having it set horizontally in a Halo, does that sound like it would work? It maybe replace my bridal set so I would really like to make it into something I will treasure. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks so much in advance, if i arent supposed to post that here please delete or move!

Thanks, Elvie

Hi Elvie!

I don't have a marquise diamond, but I love them set horizontally.  I believe IHaveADiamondProblem has one set that way.  It's a beautiful ring.

Here's a shot of it from the photo gallery:

I prefer marquis set north south the diamond looks huge and enlongates the finger  that way and  more like an eyeball set east west IMO

hi All!
Elvawith , Thank you for posting!

That would be so cool if you get the diamond!

I agree with Annie- I LOVE the Marquise ring she showed- it looks lovely going left to right across the finger.

Dear Elvawith -

Here's mine.  It's set north/south with prongs.  If you're set on east/west, go for it!

I saw a really pretty three stone marquise on someone's hand the other day.  It was nice.

I love them set both ways.  Both rings posted are beautiful!  CZJ ring IS a plump one, isn't it?  At first glance, I thought it was an oval, but very pretty!

thanks for the pics!! took me a while to reply, i know!!! we did get the diamond afterall and cant decide wether to get it set or trade it in for something a tiny bit bigger. We dont have an endless budget though, Do you think a 1ct stone would be big enough to look great in a halo setting or would it be swallowed up?
Thanks!!!

HI Elvawith,
Welcome back!

I'd say a one carat can look great in a halo setting.
Hopefully, it will be a well cut one- one aspect of which is how big it actually looks.
If it's a large looking one carat, it's going to be a pretty large ring.
Even if it's a smaller looking one carat it will still be a reasonable size IMO...

I think the option of "trading up for something a little bigger" would be difficult, if not impossible to accomplish.
When you sell an item to a jeweler- or dealer- they will only pay a fraction of the item's retail value.

Thats GREAT help ty! The only thing I was worried about is that the diamond is from a divorce.. Roll Eyes so i thought trading it in might get rid of some of the bad voodoo... I'm actually ok with it its the hubby who is a bit funny about it!!!
I LOVE the east west setting so I might just for go for it!

I think that if the diamond belongs to you- at this point it's history should be cast away....
I mean, trading it will involve a substantial loss- and re-setting it will mean you're getting maximum usage.
After all, success ( or happiness) is the best revenge, yes?

I agree - give your lovely diamond the next chapter in its history, that will deal with the vibes!

A halo will be lovely. Something about marquise stones always makes me think halo.

Would love to see the end result.
