Start with a diamond that has a bit of body color.
GIA called it K.

In the above photo it looks totally colorless.
IN the photo below I can notice the slight tint.

The same holds true in real life.
Diamonds' appearance changes based on many different factors- ambient light chief among them.
Let's remember though that a D color's appearance will also change based on the light under which you view it.
I love D colors.
You can certainly see what the bru-haha is about- a totally colorless diamond has a certain type of beauty unlike anything else.
Of course, I'd say that a K does too.
Anyway, one day I said to myself, "Self- you should set a K next to some yellow trills to see how it looks"
See, using a D next to yellow trills is a no brainer, because the contrast will be maximum.
What if the contrast was slightly less?
