A 72.22 ct Diamond is being auctioned in NYC next month....

Intersting story, but it contains this line...
Quote
D-color is actually colorless and considered the most highly valued.

WRONG!!!

Blue, Pink, Green, or vivid yellow could all be more valuable.
Shoot, I was going to buy it's such a ....boring color...heheheh

Reminds me of one of the UK's shopping channels - they show a colour chart that would suggest there is a line from D - Z, where D is the rarest and most valuable and Z is the least...

I have been driving myself crazy trying to find that inverted slope graph that shows the value of colored diamonds. Could you repost that again?
Thanks.

I used to think that, before colored diamonds showed up on my radar. It's annoying how just a little bit of simple RESEARCH could have made that article so worthwhile!

How annoying that people read that and get the wrong idea.  I like how vivid is like off in right field....like off the charts.

My husband told me that it will not be called the CaratHead Diamond...in other words, we won't be bidding... Sad

LOL...if you consider their year is only at most 9 months long, it is really only 3 months pay for him!!!  For him I would name it "The Alex".

Isn't three months pay what you're supposed to fork out for an engagement ring, according to tradition? Something like that?  Evil

Someone said it was originally two months salary...but I am going for three.  I am not digging the BF right now anyway...but Ms. Fancy Pants is hanging tough for now.

I think the standard should be three months, you know-- just to be on the safe side! I mean, you don't want the wife-to-be to think that you're edging on the cheap side for her COMMITMENT DIAMOND.  Roll Eyes

I think 72 carats is a reasonable commitment, no?

Very reasonable and I think in this case an investment of  3 months´ salary for each carat for a commitment diamond would be  perfectly acceptable.

Bad news here, but in the UK it's one month! Remember the old advert? "How else could you make a month's salary last a lifetime?"

All they had to say was that it is the mostly highly valued of the colorless stones.  I wondered if something was edited for space.

It is funny, but in my experience with friends and family, they seem to think a colored diamond, no matter what grade, is more expensive than a white diamond no matter the grade.  Most friends who've asked about my colored diamond rings mention that they have never seen one in person before, with a look of real wonderment.  I guess this is one reason why it is so easy to be susceptible to a bad deal from a dishonest seller.
