I have a round diamond .94 carat classified I1 because of a feather on culet and another one on girgle according to my gemmologist.

I have many complexes and I have difficulties to like my diamond because of that. However, when I go on the website of Diamond By Lauren, I see many offer for I1 diamonds and I know David is one of the best specialist in diamonds.

Why I'm so  sad and feel really bad to have an I1 diamond when David sells some? Sincerely David, you sell diamonds of this category because you must have a broad range of customers or is because certain I1 diamonds are really beautiful?

And you ladies and gentlemen, did you already live this kind of complex or am I the only one to react this manner?

Hey sctci,

It always makes me sad to hear when people have such conflicted feelings about their diamonds, but you're certainly not the only person to feel them.  Did you buy the diamond knowing the clarity, or was it graded later?  If you loved the diamond before you heard the clarity grade, do you think it would be possible to put it out of your mind and start enjoying it again?  At this point, the clarity grade is just a letter on a piece of paper.  A piece of paper you can put away and never look at again, if you so wish!

Personally, I think lower clarity diamonds can certainly be beautiful when picked correctly!  The diamond in my engagement ring is an SI2, and if I look in the right light, really close, and at just the right angle, I can see a couple tiny carbon spots.  This doesn't bother me in the least.  I think my diamond is beautiful.  I'm sure it would bother some people, but everyone values different things.

I'll attach a picture of my diamond.

I'll also attach a picture of a ring belonging our member jewellk.  Her ring is an I2, and I think it looks fantastic!

Stci, what I have learned from the time that I have spent around David is this...it doesn't matter what the piece of paper says.  What matters is what your eye sees.  David does indeed have some lovely I1s and even a few I2s.  I don't have an I1 from David, but I do have a K coloured stone.  Convention says that you should stay away from lower coloured stones, but I love mine.  the beautiful cut is all that I see.  A well cut diamond is what is most important!

The important question that I have for you is this...do you not like your diamond because of what you see?  Or, do you not like your diamond because of what the gemologist has to say about it?  You are the only one who knows what the paper says.  If you like how it looks then don't worry that it is an I1. Smiley

We would love to see pictures too!

Stci,
What good replies from Annie and KK, and  I agree, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  I like to think of the little imperfections like this...diamonds are all unique in their own way, just like people.  Some have little bitty flaws, but that doesn't make them "not beautiful".  There isn't any of us, as people, perfect, and very few diamonds that are also. More than likely, you really liked your diamond at first, but maybe the gemologist telling you the flaws, made you feel differently?  I would like to see pics too, as your avatar looks so pretty!

Stci- I'm sorry you feel that way. Like annie said, was it AFTER you had it looked at that you feel this way? It may be that the suggestion of a flaw made you upset.

Stci!!!  Your diamond is beautiful!  Don't worry at all about what the paper says.  To my eyes it is just gorgeous!  I would never know that it was an I1 by looking at those pictures.

My honest (and very humble) opinion is that it is just beautiful!  I can truly say that from looking at those pictures I would never know that it was an I1!

KK! Madora! Really? You think my diamond is not as horrible as I see it? That comforts me much! My husband says that I exaggerate, perhaps he is right!

Stici,
I don't think anyone could look closely at that second shot in the last group of pics you posted and say that your diamond is not beautiful!  I'm telling the absolute truth on this, I promise.  I love your diamond!  heart2

i personally own an I1 princess, i know where the flaw is but i love it anyway!  a stone does not have to be perfect on paper to be lovely in person!  and believe me, yours is lovely!

Is it possible you were told this in order to persuade you to buy an "upgraded" stone from this person? Your stone looks very beautiful to me!

Huh? I really don't know...

There is another thing which I did not say to you... The table of my diamond is enormous. I did not know anything when I bought it and since all that I read indicate that the table is too large 70%. I even already thought that I had a fisheye but thereafter, other people said to me that not. It's all these reasons which make me doubt of its beauty...

I tried to sell it at low prices so much I were disappointed but nobody wanted to buy it, it seems it is a bad sign. Your opinion will help me to change my mind I hope cause I don't have enough money to buy another one without selling this one. BTW, my husband likes this diamond and I think that makes him sorrow when I say that I do not like it.

Your stone looks very beautiful! If you had not told us it was an I1, I would have NEVER guessed that!!!

I will be the first one to admit, before I knew better, I would have NEVER EVER looked at a diamond that was below a VS2 clarity.  When I was searching for my princess diamond (before David) I saw many MANY GIA and AGS Si1 diamonds, and I could ALWAYS find the inclusion even w/o a loupe.  So when I found my princess, I wanted NOTHING less than a VS2.

Now, that was 2 years ago? 3? Having found David, my forever diamond supplier, I would NOT hesitate buying an Si or I1.  Why?? Well, I have 2.02 ctw RB I1 studs from him and MY GOD!! THEY ARE AMAZING!!! One I swear should be graded Si1 (I can see a feather in one w/ a loupe) where the other is what looked like most Si2's I've seen.  There is a feather but it's covered by the prong.

Now, since the cut was superior, the inclusions are masked! Even w/ my hawk eyes.  I can see things w/ a loupe but NO ONE ought to be looking at my ears that close!

Now with a ring, some feel differently about clarity.  But I think it depends.  I've seen the I1's that David has, and had I known about him? I could have saved a few thousands of dollars as I would have gone down to an Si for a diamond or lower depending on the circumstance.

An I1 doesn't mean your diamond is ugly.  YOUR diamond has rays flying off of the diamond! I assume the pictures haven't been touched and if so, who cares if it's an I1!! The diamond looks great!!!!

There are ugly I1's out there, but trust your eyes.

Stci,  it is hard when you don't like your stone.  I know!  I didn't like my original e-ring at all and everyone else thought that it was fine.  I wanted yellow and it was more brown...I could see inclusions in it miles away...etc.  I felt like I was exaggerating too!!!

Is it maybe more that you want a different shape or design?  I totally understand when you have fallen out of love with your stone.  It is hard to get that "feeling" back no matter what others say about your ring.

Maybe another setting would do the trick. A round halo with lots of tiny diamonds would look great.

That way you keep your hubby happy and you have a different ring.

Stci these ladies are right! Your ring is fantastic! I think it's the number that is messing you up, but it's like Snoop said. You get it in your head that diamonds should be a certain grade but that's just not true! I never thought that way either till I met David! A good cut and a nice setting will show a diamonds true beauty even when a piece of paper does not! STOP  stop letting this grade mess with you! Your diamond is spectacular and I would of NEVER guessed that grade for YOUR diamond! So stop freaking out, don't make me come after you  thewife YOUR DIAMOND IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stci, with regards to the large table you describe on your diamond, remember that the proportioning of a diamond is just ONE of MANY factors that indicate a diamond's beauty. For example, there are diamonds ALL OVER the DBL website that are "outside" what are considered "normal" parameters when describing beautiful diamond characteristics, and they are all beautiful.

I agree with others here, your diamond looks lovely in the photos.  But, I know from personal experience how disappointing it can be when you revisit your jewelry after "re-educating" yourself about gemstones. It would be a shame to give up a lovely stone that your husband seems to care for.  Like kleinkath and Pinklady suggest, perhaps down the road you can reset your stone and get something exciting and new that is still something special and cherished by you and your husband.

I think somewhere along the way you`ve lost the plot here ST. Surely a ring given in the right way and loved for the right reasons are what makes it beautiful or valuable ?
Grades, colours, size or price are worth nothing without those.

STCI...go back to the very day that you first set eyes on your diamond.... are you there?  Think of what "your eyes" saw that very first day it captured your heart!    I think it is so gorgeous!  If the jeweler did not tell you otherwise that it was an I1.............you would be just as in love with it the day that you got it... am I right?   Maybe you would fall right back in love with that beauty if you reset it.   Remember it too for it's sentimental value.     I don't know if you have seen my thread on my Pear diamond that I had reset.     I swear the setting has made me fall in love with my diamond all over again.    That may be just what you need! Wink

Here is a before and after pic of my pear reset.

I guess everyone is saying the same thing, but I just want to also say that an I1 should be no bother if you love the stone.  My only concern would be that I paid for what I knew I was getting, and that it was not sold to you as something worth more than it is.  Other than that, if you loved it before you should let this whole clarity thing go.

I know that in thinking about my own future upgrades or purchases, one of the things I will be looking for is lower clarity (though eye clean), as it will help keep the cost down so I can get the color and size I want.  And I also had a diamond I did not like that I now LOVE after David put it in one of his halos.  But if you loved your setting and are just upset about what you found out about the stats, let it go.
