What are your thoughts when you see a pear shaped diamond?    Before I had my first child, I purchased my 1 carat ps diamond.   I just loved it and am considering resetting it.  After seeing Snoopers pink halo....I am seriously considering a pink halo type setting.

To get back to my question,  does anyone care too much for pearshaped diamonds anymore?   Should I reset it or spend my $$ on something more drool worthy?     Here are a few setting ideas I have in mind.  Feel free to post more.    ~Ronda

For those who have not seen my ps, here it is in it's current setting.  I had the shank changed to platinum.   The guy that did it was "experimenting" as he was not a benchman, but wanted to learn.   He did a so-so job, but he also charged me next to nothing.   Also,  he was the manager of the jewelry store that I worked for years ago.   So I thought, why not give him a chance?.....~Ronda

Oh I love that pear pendant with RB!! I guess if I were in your shoes, I'd take a few things into consideration.

1) Would you wear it a lot?
2) Necklace or ring?

I love my halo, and you know first hand how great they are! Yet I love the split shank!

Pears have never been a favorite of mine, but I LOVE them as side stones! LOVE!!! I think they're making a come back per say.  It looks like from your pics that the pear is not a dud, so it might be worth sprucing her up a bit.  It'd be nice having an alternative RHR with your current DBL!!!

You know, in 2001, when I found out that my husband/then boyfriend was going to be proposing with my MILs ring and I would not have a say in what I was getting, I just sat tight and prayed for it not to be a pear or a marquise (it turned out to be an RB with marquise sides).  I really wanted a 2ct Tiffany Lucida and we could have afforded it then more than we ever will be able to in the future, but I digress.

Now, I am finding myself looking at the pears on the DBL website with much longing.  It started with a very chic woman I know who I saw sporting a HUGE pear with baguettes.  It was a knockout!!!  Carathead's necklace sealed the deal for me.  Someday I would love to have one, and if I were you I would definitely hold on to yours, but I would reset it.  I loved all of your choices, especially the one that criss-crosses on the sides or the DBL pink halo.

Cannot wait to see what you do with it!!!

Wow - this is a hard call Ronda.  I really like that last split shank setting you posted, and if you like your pear and think you'll wear it, then going for it might not be a bad idea.  If you're not going to wear it that much though, it would be a shame to re set it instead of spending the money on something you love.

I never had a thing for pears, but my mind has officially been changed.  I spend a whole heck of a lot time thinking about a sapphire pear which has caught my eye.

Ronda, i'll be honest.  Pears are not really my fave shape - they are down on my list....but there are pears, and there are pears!!

My fave setting is a pear with pear sides...i've really been smitten with that kind of setting - so a non pear lover has been converted!!

I like the split shank setting you put up.  And you have a halo already - not that you can't have two halo's...but you know......if you wanted to mix up styles then maybe go with a non-halo design?

Annie makes a very good point about spending money on a reset when you could get something you love if you are not 100% on what you want to do.......hmmmmm...she's so clever!!

Well, totally biased as I am, I LOVE PEARS!  You know Ronda, that I am going to be resetting my original ER PS here very soon and I've gone round and round with how to do it.  I know what you are going through and I feel your pain!

I say, reset it but take the time to think about how you would most wear it.  If you would wear a pendant a lot, then set it like CHs pendant (LOVE that one) or if you would prefer to put it in a pink halo and look at her on your finger, then take that route.

It's tough to choose, I know, but it will look GAWGEOUS!

I agree with the others that you need to think about what you would wear the most.  My yellow pendant is set like CHs and I do love it!!!  Well, my RB is much smaller...

I think that either choice would be just lovely Smiley

I am so glad all you gals have replyed.  Such great comments and suggestions.   KK and CH...do you both wear your necklaces often?   I am such a ring nut...and I just want to be sure.  I do think I would wear a necklace like this all the time.   I would consider having David add a FLBY round diamond above the pear.

Another setting I would consider after seeing GracefulLions upcoming cushion ring,  is baguettes.   I would even consider colored baguettes...........especially PINK!  I cringe to think of what that would set me back though!!

DJ....I may just wait until you have your ring set....I am sure  that when I see yours,  I will want to do the same thing.   We can be twins.... Grin~Ronda

Ronda, I haven't always loved pears either (mostly because of the funny, dumb story below), but now I'd buy one of David's pears anyday!! I've really takened a liking to them.....plus hearts are very similar to pears. And you know I love those! Ryan even calls my purple heart a fat pear!  Cheesy

I have a funny story. When I was a little girl, my Mom always complained about her large bottom (but it really wasn't THAT large---just your usual woman worries I guess). She'd always say she was shaped like a pear! I think that somehow tainted the word, pear for me. Even now, when I hear the word pear I think, BIG BOTTOM! "Pear" is such an un-romantic name for such a beautiful diamond. I usually call them "tear-drops" (the happy ones, not the sad ones) because I think it sounds so much prettier!

I've really fallen in love with all the pink halos lately! I think it'd look so beautiful with a pink diamond halo (in rose gold), but white diamond shank (in plat or white gold)........and I love the split shanks you posted too!

Is that setting sentimental to you, or just the diamond? I know you got it when you turned 30 & were pregnant with your first child. That is the only thing I worry about......you know me, I get too sentimental & attached to things!

I'm a ring nut too, so I'd definitely say a ring. I think rings are worn & enjoyed more than necklaces & earrings.

BTW, your pear looks like it really has some life to it! It sparkles like mad. I know it's not a DBL diamond, but I still think you got a really nice one! Does it have a GIA report?

Good luck with your decision.

Cute story Amy....I guess the pear is perfect for me  and my "fat bottom"...LOL!   It is sentimental to me for  those reasons...also...it is my first solitare over 1 ct.   I purchased it from the guy I use to work for who added the platinum shank for the setting.   NO GIA.........which is fine buy me.  I know what my eyes see.   I have never been one that needed a GIA ...unless I was considering selling it.    I had looked at several pears and I was STOKED when I saw this one.    I like that the point of the pear did not take on that "cloudy" look that pears so often have.   I have received a ton of compliments on it too.     I like the very last split shank setting that I posted.   I think that would be gorgeous.   If I had my way,  I would do it with pink diamonds.........my dilema would be white or rose gold??      If I can't do that........I would still consider a necklace.    ~Ronda

Ronda, I actually ended up selling my pear.  I loved it, but as a necklace, I didn't get to see it enough to justify the money I had spent on it.  Had I kept it, I would have reset it into a ring.

I loved so much the pear I sold for my neighbor.  I really wanted to re-set that one into a pink halo...but, I have the round halo, and will have a marquise halo...so, that was just one halo too many.

I think pears are gorgeous...you just have to find the right setting...

I couldn't remember if you sold the pear necklace or not.  I know that you sold your neighbors pear.   They were both so gorgeous.     I think what I may do is see what DJ does with her pear........I know with her great taste,  I will want to do the same! ~Ronda

CH, did somebody buy your neighbor's pear ring on DT? I wasn't even aware that it had sold. It was STUNNING!!!!!!

Ronda & DJ, I'm excited to see how you guys re-set your pears. I'm still voting for a pink diamond halo in rose gold, with a white diamond/white metal shank. But I'm sure you guys will come up with some BEAUTIFUL ideas, even if it's not that.

Ronda...I had the same dilemma about having a necklace vs a ring because I couldn't see the pendant.  So, I put the pendant on a 20" chain so I CAN see it now.  I just look down.  If that will work for you, I would suggest that the pear setting be long enough to not look out of balance on a slightly longer chain.  1 1/2"  long setting or drop should do it...

My two cents

I didn't sell my pear necklace on DT...I traded it in with my local jeweler for a platinum square step cut tennis bracelet that I had been dying over...it goes perfectly with my emerald cut ER.  It looks like asschers, but I think they are square step cuts...not sure...don't care...it is 6 carats.  I had to have it!

He marked the pendant up to like $23K and sold it over the Christmas holidays!  (Granted, he probably cut the price to make the sale.)  But we both won in the end!

I loved so much the pear I sold for my neighbor.

CH, I know you sold (or traded I guess) your pear necklace. I just didn't know your neighbor's pear ring had sold too......that's what I was actually asking about. I'd love to see pics of the bracelet you traded your pear necklace for though! It sounds so beautiful!!!!

Oooooh Ronda, your idea sounds so beautiful! I'm so glad you're still with the idea of a pink diamond halo in rose gold........but white baguettes!?! I had never even thought of that! It'd be so pretty!!!!
