I have a plat shared prong full eternity band (1.5cttw) and it now falls off my hand. Literally. Again, I blame DJ for this  Grin (see weightloss thread!)

Do I have to have it completely remade with new metal, or could it be cut and soldered with one or two diamonds removed? Has anyone else had to do this? I reckon it needs to come down about two and a half to three sizes. Can it be done at all, or do I need a whole new ring? Evil  Anyone?

Hi All,
Jen, the problem with "all the way around" bands is exactly what you're facing now.
It will be near impossible to be able to adjust such a ring now that it's built.
At least that's our experience.
Cutting the ring is really hard- then once you bend it all the remaining stones will come loose.....

I understand the significance of the "eternity band"- and we've built them- but a small sizing bar on the bottom eliminates this consideration

So I'm really looking at having the stones removed and set into a new ring? I thought so, but I was hoping there would be some other option. Oh well, thanks for the info. I'll have to get all my other rings sized anyway, so I might qualify for a quantity discount somewhere!

Hi Jen,
I'd advise caution when choosing a place to have your rings sized.
Here's what to watch out for:
1) A mark, or porosity ( little holes) where the ring was cut
2) loosening of stones. Many times when a jeweler bends the ring for size adjustment, stones need to be re-set because they come loose.

Most rings can be adjusted for size with no problem- if the jeweler knows what they are doing.
Problem is that it's hard to know which ones do!

I think there is a good one not too far away. He made my custom wedding band, which is plat, so I'd have to take that back to him anyway. That said, he was about 106 when he made the band, so he might have retired by now! It was a while ago! Grin

I would be very nervous about taking them to someone I didn't know, particularly if there was a risk of loose stones. It might be easier if I just gain weight (but no-one tell DJ!)

Good Luck Jen!

Since we moved to a new town, I have had a terrible time finding someone "good" to size my rings(not for lack of several options!).  They always come back with a line and aren't even polished up nicely-agh!!!

LOL Y'all are picking on me! I asked an innocent question about my big rings!

Ok, just plain salad then. If I shrink much further, I'm going to be able to have it made into an eternity band for each hand! Grin

EMJ - Genius! Sizing balls! There's a small flat piece of metal on the inside where the hallmark is - I could see about having one put in there. Mind you, it is nearly 3 sizes out. Worth a try.

How on earth did you lose three finger sizes? I weigh 90 lbs more than I did in middle school, and my finger size has only went up by one size....granted, I have lost 40lbs in the past 12 months...and not a bit of change in my ring sizes...(cheap hands?)

I have no idea! My right hand is easily two sizes bigger than my left, too. I must look odd!

The change in size happened virtually overnight- one fine day I was waving my hand around and my rings flew off. My wedding set is in the safe and my oval is doubling as wedding and ering, although it's getting a little loose too.

I need to get a sizer and find out what sizes I really need now. I'm not going to get any of my rings changed until the end of the weightloss challenge!

I have seen clear plastic tubing that is slit, and fits on the ring at the palm side so that doesn't slide as much...given that airline tubing for fish would be less expensive, and you could purchase the correct thickness of the tubing to suit...you might want to try that as a temporary solution...do you have your oval posted btw?

How about wearing it on the right hand on a different finger?

Do not backtrack on the WL! You've come so far.

I'm with EMJ, even if I lost a boat load of weight, my finger size is the same.  In jr. high I was like 115 and a size 6, and now at 1XX I'm a size 7... Even when I was 20 pounds lighter before I got married, my ring was a 6.75!!!!!!!!!

I wish I could loose 3 ring sizes!

Hey, here's a pretzel with loads of cheese  Evil

Thanks for the pretzel, Snoop! Delish!

Anyone feeling bad about weightloss not reducing finger size should remember that nothing is ever perfect - it might be leaving me with smaller hands, but my thighs remain substantial! You pick! Grin
