Hi all-
I just started shopping for an engagement ring (my fiance is letting me pick it out myself) and I would like opinions and suggstions.

I really like the look of a princess cut with baguettes on the sides (thanks Snooper, it's beautiful!), but I'm open to ideas.   I don't like a lot a ton of metal, I'd like the setting to be more delicate.

Color/clarity - I'm looking in the H/I range as I do like the warmer stones and VS1 to SI1-2, as long as the stone is eye clean. The budget is right around $3,000 so I'm hoping that a .75 carat princess cut center stone will be doable, with perhaps .25 in baguettes.   I'm also open to a J color, depending on the stone, if I can go a little bit bigger.

I would love to have suggestions and opinions, so please feel free.   Thanks!!!

Hi Chelsea!
You have a nice budget and I KNOW David can work some miracles with that! He has A LOT of beautiful new diamonds right around a carat for well within your budget (if you get his single baguette semi-mount). I have a J colored diamond and I love it! Have you checked out David's thread on 29 new colorless diamonds? It's a LONG thread but LOTS and LOTS of eye candy there!

So basically, something like this but with a white center?
http://rockdiamond.c...p;action=show_detail
Yes, that would be very pretty.  Have you seen the new I1 stones David has gotten recently?  Most of those are under 3K, and that setting is only about $700, assuming you can use a "stock" setting.  So that gives you about $2300 for your diamond....  There are a couple of princesses in that group, although I recall that one is 1.5 ct and out of your budget...

This
http://rockdiamond.c...p;action=show_detail

would be in your budget... and it's 1.14 ct. ... BUT it's an I2.  Still, you might talk to David about it, JIC it would suit.

Another thing... I thought I wanted a princess as my ER (nearly 11 years ago, I was having these thoughts... but you and I are the same age).  I ended up with a rectangular radiant.  It has small corners, so they actually disappear under the prongs.  (I have trilliant sides on mine; it's a .96 with about .35 in both trills together.)  So you might look at radiants, too... they really grew on me.

I know that this is out of your budget, but here's a gorgeous radiant with double  baguette sides, just to give you an idea:

And here are a couple of radiants that would suit your budget, although they are an I1 and an I2.  But the color and sparkle are awesome, and I'm sure David could find some slightly smaller stones with a higher clarity grade.  But these are just ideas:

Thanks tea and robin!

Chelsea- congratulations on your engagement!

Thank you too for posting.
I'd say your budget will certainly allow a very nice baguette ring.

Robin pointed out a few of the really nice imperfect diamonds we've just gotten.
I'd say that based on your desires we would probably find a nice 3/4 carat in a VS2, or eye clean Si1 for you once the time comes.

Love what Robin posted! I personally prefer square radiants to princess cuts because I like the clipped corners more but that's a personal preferent. Good luck!

One thing to keep in mind.. DBL has a trade up policy.  So if this is even a consideration, if you find a stone, and then later find something bigger, higher color/clarity, you could use the money you spent towards a piece that is 2x more than what you paid.

 hello

Welcome Chelsea!  I think your idea sounds lovely.  Snooper's ring made me a firm believer in the princess/baguette combo.

Good luck finding the perfect ring!  Keep us updated!

Thanks for your suggestions Robin (and everyone for their comments!).   I went through the new arrivals and the cushion cuts and square radiants are beautiful!

I really think the I love the princess cut the best...I'll keep you all posted on what we decide on!   Smiley

Chelsea, you can call David with what your specs and budget is and he can find something for you that he does not have in inventory. I did that when I was looking for a RB for my mom half a year ago. He was really helpful and great about finding something for me that was UNDER my budget!
Can't wait to see your finished ring!

Welcome Chelsea. Looks like I'm late. I thought I posted hello. I'm sure you'll find many options on the forum.

(Oh, I just realized this post in in the white/colorless section) I did post hello.

Below is our ring gallery with princess cut diamonds. There are two on the page with baguettes although they are yellow diamonds.

Based on David's feedback above and your desires, take a look at PRIN-15 since it's a .72ct center with baguettes.

There's also a three princess diamond band at the bottom, PRIN-18 that could be made with white diamonds.

And finally one that is close to your budget but quite a nice ring for it although these are radiant cuts.

Thank you, WM (and yes, you did say hello! Smiley), that ring with the radiants is beautiful!  As are all the rings on this site.

I've been perusing the diamonds and my fiance and I will probably be ready in about two weeks.  At that time, I'll give David a call and work with him.  Our budget is around $3,000, so a little over would fine, although a little under is good too!

I have to say that everyone here is so nice and friendly!  And I really do appreciate all of the suggestions, I'm taking notes!

I'll keep you all posted on the progress!

Chelsea, you'll find that DBL has diamonds/settings for every budget-----but every ring looks like a million bucks!

I have an SI2 and I2 (both hearts) from DBL. I'm VERY VERY happy with them. You can save some money by getting a diamond with a few flaws. I wouldn't be nervous about getting an I1 or I2 from DBL at all, because David hand picks all the diamonds.....he has a real talent for picking out the BEST "flawed" stones!

Here are a few pics of some DBL princess rings....single baguette sides, double baguette sides, and trilliant sides----the trilliant sides might be over your budget though.?. But I still think it's a very pretty combo. It's Carathead's GORGEOUS ring from DBL.

Can't wait to see your ring.

Heart Amy
