Hi everyone!
We've had this diamond around the office for a nearly five months already... for one thing, I just couldn't figure out how to categorize it.

I was calling it a shield.  Then all of a sudden, it hit me!  It's a kite!  I mean, it looks exactly like a kite- the kind a kid ( or adult with a great spirit) would fly.

You know it's a funny thing, sometimes it's an expression people might use to discourage another
"OH YEA BUDDY- WELL Go fly a kite!"

Click here for more on this diamond.

In fact, if you did that, you'd probably have a really good time!

Superman. A skinny superman. That would be a killer pendant.

You mentioned it is not symetrical.  What are the measurements of each side?  Are the angles different?

 Huh? Mikla

Hang the longer point down.  The chain can be attached on the smaller angled sides at the top.  Kind of like an arrow?

Great question Mikla- in fact, I was going strictly by visuals.

We use a "Leverage Gauge"- as shown below which is good for measuring loose, and mounted diamonds.
For something like this we'd need a more sofistacted measuring tool.

Is the diamond feeling like waving the Mexican flag, or is that your red shirt, David?  Wink

I was looking for pics for a pendant, and I came across this one.  I immediately thought of your kite!   sign13

Could your kite be set in a pendant similar to this?

I love the halo setting with the yellow diamond and with the longer point up towards the bail, totally what I envisioned for this unique stone Smiley

LOVE IT!  You should also make it where it has a clasp so it can be worn on a chain or as a pearl enhancer.

Milka, great job on the research!  I like the bale treatment on the first pendant, very pretty.

Hummm, I don't know, folks, about the kite facing pointed end up... because David's stone is relatively flat across the top/bottom end (unlike the two stones in Mikla's pendant photos) I might prefer this one with the point facing down, as opposed to the flat edge on the other end. I suppose that it could work either way... hard to say.  Also, it might be fun to think of it paired with another stone... or several, in addition to a melee, as a pendant.

True, it could go either way.  My main concern was having the heavier part facing down, to keep the pendant from wanting to flip over, similar to how pears are usually set.  Trinkette, what were you thinking with regard to pairing it with another stone?  Sounds interesting .  .  .

Honestly, Mikla, I have NO idea! I'm just out here flying by the seat of my pants again.  Roll Eyes  I'd have to sketch (doodle, more accurately) some ideas for awhile.  I don't know, the shape of the stone just seems to lend itself to that sort of thing; like, maybe, a triangle at the top with the base end facing the base end of the kite with a melee around and in-between both (so the kite would have the pointed end facing downward).  But, then, you'd have to match diamond colors and cuts to some extent...  Hey, I know! Why don't we ask David to take the kite and trot all around 47th street with it, wading through thousands and thousands of gemstones, to find the PERFECT stone to match?   I'm SURE that he has the time, and I KNOW that he'd LOVE us for it.  angel  1087 angel

Seriously, one could do all sorts of things with this stone as the center of something... but, I think that it does need more stones with it to be a noticable pendant.  Too bad pins aren't in these days... you could do all sorts of funk stuff.  Maybe male this the center to a flower shape...

Mikla, we are talking about making this into a pendant, but it could be a really neat ring as well. For both pendant and ring ideas, check out sold ring R1888 (blue triangle).  This is a perfect example of a "difficult" shape that was made into a beautiful, unique, and very wearable piece of jewelry.  And, if you look at the ring sideways, you'll get an idea of what I was talking about with the small triangle over the larger shape... it is not QUITE what I meant, but you'll get the idea (I never thought of the connection until I looked the ring up just now).

Ahhh, A Pats fan.  I see you figured out how to play with your avatar afterall!  Wink

Yes, yes, the ring idea is spectacular!  The kite would be wider and create more finger coverage!

PS:  Yes, definite Pats fan.  I also got one from South Park.  You can tell I have a 15 year old daughter!  Grin
