Hi Everyone!
Today was "match up stones for rings" day around here!

We love this part of the job- but it can be challenging.

A radiant with trills- that's like falling off a log- very popular, and classic.

But how about trying something different.
There's risk- it cost's a lot of (unrecoverable) money experimenting by building the ring.....

Anyway, here's the idea we had today...
Our 1.29 Asscher cut flanked by two squarish cushions....

Opinions?

Honestly? When I saw the title of the post, my first thought was 'no, no, no!'

When I saw the actual stones? Yes, yes, yes!

I think it comes down to how the cushions are cut - bucket of crushed ice probably wouldn't look as well suited, but that slightly older style cushion (or a style of cutting that shows a slight EC look) is very, very nice with the crisp lines of the asscher.

I like that combination very much.

Well, David, it's honestly not my favorite combination.  I prefer step-cuts with step-cuts, and brilliant cuts with brilliant cuts.  But it's really just my personality because I have an OCD about things matching.

In terms of color, they are quite stunning!

In case I haven't bugged you quite enough yet (which I know I have), I am still waiting for pics of that caramel 2.81 Asscher with icy white Asscher sides.  Just call me a PITA.   Grin

Well, generally, I like different.  But, I'm not sure if this combination makes enough of a statement for me. I want to be wowed.  To me, this combo is fine, but, not  wow2 . It is like there's something missing; the stones don't "sing" together like I want them to.

Sorry, but, I'll sit over in the PITA corner with Mikla on this one.

david As long as you have the sides handy, just for fun,  Roll Eyes  why don't you try them next to the brown cushion that I have lurking around your place?  I mean, really, what harm can it do?

I'm just trying to be helpful...  Evil

BTW, I feel the need to add a disclaimer:

evil5 I responded because you asked (and I am an incorrigible big-mouth), but, I really shy from offering an opinion regarding any particular set-up (unless I'm SURE I love it) because I do recognize that one person's poison may be another's pleasure.

Very true.  Which is why I said I know my taste is governed by my OCD.  Others will find this combo awesome and that is just the difference of opinion which makes the forum so interesting and fun!

It IS interesting, Mikla, that we seem to agree on this one... afterall, you are generally so totally meticulous, orderly and organized and I am usually shambolic, slapdashed and discombobulated about stuff!  Banane13

I'm not sure what some of those words mean, T,   Grin   but I can tell you that I have envied all of the diamond purchases you have made since I've been on the site.  I'm really looking forward to seeing how you set them!

Sorry, to get back to the point of the thread ( Grin ); as far as the Asscher goes, I WISH, David, that you had ANOTHER (yea, right) .70 deep brownish yellow non-cleavage heart (R2651) to make it a pair, THEN, flank the spicy colored non-hearts around the 1.29 Asscher.  The rich, intense color of the sides, contrasted with the sharp, clean cut, glassy look of the Asscher would definitely  wow2 me.  In fact, I'd go nuts trying to buy the ring.

Got any pairs like that hiding anywhere? (You can smack me now...)

1224 I'm SURE that David is fishing around right now for my little brown cushion to match with the cushion pair...

(Or a big stick for SMACKING).

Miss Dicombobulated:

If I show you what the 1.26 looks like next to these cushions, I have a feeling we won't be able to set them next to the asscher.......( I already know the combo is AMAZING!)

Oh Plehhhhhh- EEEEEEEZE! Really, what is the harm?  You KNOW that I can't afford them anyway.  Roll Eyes Besides, even if I DO end up liking these, I'll still let you keep them.  Afterall, I KNOW that you can source another pair.  Grin

I'm just asking to see them with the brown cushion for purely EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES.  angel

See! There is proof that I AM shambolic, slapdashed and discombobulated... I can't even spell the word "using!"  What is that, a first-grade word?  Kindergarten, maybe?  Look at my post #9 above, I wrote "UNSING." I'm pathetic.  How depressing. Now, I'm sad.

I need a little pick-me-up.  Something to brighten my spirits.

I know! How about a pair of cushions photographed next to my brown cushion?  Quite simple really.  And, oh, how I KNOW that I would feel INSTANTLY better. I'm SURE of it.  Yes, I'm quite sure...

I'm not going to sugar coat or beat around the bush. I don't like the combo.

However, I would like it with sapphire side stones or pink sapphire side stones. Or traps. Or three stone. Yellow step cut side stones.  I also love double baguettes which give it a big look without being too costly.

I must say, I very much like the colored sapphire side idea.  Hot pink Asscher shaped sapphires would be killer. In fact, WM, I like ALL your suggestions.

Ah. Looks like I'm the only one who liked it! Would be gorgeous with a pink cushion centre though - that appeals too.

I like this set much better than the all-white one.

BTW - are you sure you greased the lens properly, David? Grin
