Hello!

My briolettes are Vs, .70 twct and H color. I don't like yellowish, champain or blue briolettes. I prefer white.

The cut of mine is regular and it's difficult to find.

Wow Sylvie! Those are lovely!

I probably should not have used the term "Irregular" because all briolettes have unique aspects making the cut different than most faceted diamonds.

Even when I look at more "regular" briolettes, the nature of the cut means that they look almost like a pineapple.
I suppose I'm so used to seeing more symmetrical diamonds...plus, these suckers are really difficult to hold with a tweezers.
I've had to pink every one I look at off the floor like, 10 times! ( video is coming)
This pair is very white- and somewhat more "regular" in cut

ill join you! haha!  i have always liked it when there are several smaller ones clustered together at the bottom of a drop earring, but i guess they would scratch each other pretty bad.  i feel like i may have to try a white topaz or a white sapphire pair (no one needs to know they're not diamonds! lol)

I` sure if I had briolette earrings I`d be forever playing with them. They`re a shape which invites you to twirl and twiddle or is that just me ?

How INTERESTING!

Now, I have a history question :-).  At what time period were these most popular, and what kind of styles would you see them set in?

You mentioned, David, that this is a very old cut... how old?  Old like Renaissance old?  (How WERE diamonds cut then?  For example, diamonds and gems belonging to, say, Elizabeth I-- what would the cuts be like?)

Robin I have been looking up my jewellery books and find that in the middle ages the most valued stones were sapphires, emeralds, rubies and red spinels and that for most of the middle ages they were polished into  cabochons.  In the 14th century gem-cutting techniques established in India and Persia were mastered by European lapidares, resulting in some angular faceted shapes.  Diamonds in particular benefited from these advances and until then they had only been available in their natural crystal form, an octahedron resembling two pyramids joined at the base. These were usually sliced at the base to give two points. And sometimes that was sliced a second time to give a table.  If you look at portraits of Elizabeth II (much later of course) you can see that the diamonds look black and have no sparkle.  The sparkle that we love so much came much much later with rose cut daimonds the so called candlelight cut.
I can´t find any mention of briolettes so they must have appeared later.  Since Stci´s earrings I have been looking at these and I must say even though they have less sparkle I like them.

Great diamond music video, David! Loved it!  I think you've now raised the bar on your own YouTube videos.   Wink

I've been wanting to post these since this thread was created but have been so busy at work.  Here are my diamond briolette earrings.  They are one of my favorite pairs of earrings.  The middle is a diamond bead.

The other thing I meant to say in my previous post was that my platinumsmith created a wire to go through the bead that is pretty secure.  The metal through the hole in the top of the briolette is thin but it's soldered and anchored to a upside-down V shaped bar (so the the whole piece looks like a musical triangle).

Sure, GL!

David - that would be terrific if your factory could set briolettes that way because they are more secure.  Those twisty wires or the really thin wires are kind of scary.

Oh Michi!  Those earrings are stunning!

David, I'm loving the briolettes big time.  I'll be real excited to see who takes the plunge and how they are set.  What a great project that will be.
