OK Ladies -  WM's belt thread inspired me to seek out your help.

I'm getting married May 26th, and I fear I'm lacking any sort of bride gene whatsoever.  Much to the annoyance of family and friends, I'm dragging my heals with pretty much every aspect of this planning process.  I did figure it was time to get a dress.

This is really going to be a very low key affair, and I'm not looking for a traditional wedding dress.  I have quite pale skin, and I've never looked good in white, so that's not my first choice.  It's not that I won't wear white if I find a dress I like, but it's not something I'm really looking for.

I'm a short gal at just under 5'2", I wear a size 12, and my bra size is a 36DD/E.  This makes it quite difficult for me to find dresses.  Strapless doesn't really work for me, since I really need something with some decent support to be comfortable.  I would like to have a 3/4 length sleeve if at all possible.  I also look terrible in long dresses because they make me seem even shorter than I am.  I'm a big fan of V-necks.

I'm going to attach a couple of pictures.  Many of the dresses are black and white, but I really don't want my dress to have much, if any, black in it.  I'm just trying to get an idea of the style right now.

I would appreciate any suggestions you may have!

If you are curvy, the green one would be nice. That brings out the shape. In fact, I would have bought that one but it's too short for me. I, too, prefer a color. But that's been tough for me to find, too.

Ok Annie! I can sympathize on the problems finding a dress.  I'm 5'3" when I don't slouch.  I'm average build too but my chest is a problem.  What makes finding dresses w/ a larger bust is that it always looks like it pulls right? And when you go up a size, then you're swimming in the waist area...

I have to say that I quite liked the shape of the black and red one.  Personally, I'd stay away from 3/4 length sleeves as for me, they make me look like I have T-Rex arms!!!!! I know my short friends have the same problem.

I'll be on the lookout hon!!!! Now.. FOR SHOES and Accessories, I can help:)

How about a cream color? Peach? I'm not good w/ color schemes.. In fact, I'm a very DRAB dresser...

Ever watch TLC what not to wear on Friday's?? That show helps me w/ clothes and issues concerning problem areas, what looks best for your shape.  Heck, I recommend going to their site and see what they say.  I guarantee that they have some tips for your situation!!!

I liked the brown one #6.  The flowing skirt will help balance your look overall.  The green one is nice also, but being petite, belts sometimes cut you in half or can even make a petite person look shorter.  BTW, you and Snooper are tall compared to me.  I only made it to 4'10 and small build.  I usually can find dresses in the little girl's department.  It was a lot of fun shopping for my wedding dress. Ha ha  The bright side to that is that even smaller diamonds look HUGE on my hands. ha ha

Thanks so much for all of the replies ladies!  It's nice to have moral support!

Of the ones I posted my favorites are the last three, but I agree that the belt on the last one might be a problem for me.  Snooper also makes a good point about the 't-rex' arms... I like a sleeve that ends at about the elbow, rather than half way through the forearm.

I'll take a look around the TLC site.

Jewellk - I actually really do like the dress you posted! I would probably have to shorten it a bit though, as it's a bit long for my taste.

I'm open to all types of ideas!

sorry, not sure why that picture won't show up.

WM, is it ok to post a link to a dress on a website on the forum??

Annie, do you mind vintage dresses? I put in a search for size 12 wedding dresses on Ebay, and a lot of dresses from the 30's-50's have sleeves and nice necklines..(could perhaps overdye them in a more flattering to you tone?) .also, consider taking a photo of a dress you love to a local seemstress/costume designer it is often more reasonable than you think....have you considered a more golden ivory or champagne? Those colors would make your lovely yellow diamond pop....
If I am getting on your nerves....let me know...

Granted, this one needs a good pressing, but the length and the sleeve length look like they could be easily altered...and the embroidery looks more modern  http://cgi.ebay.com/...QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

DJ...that last one is pretty!

Annie, I looked at that Dessy dress again and I have a shirt with similar sleeves with that tie thing at the shoulders. I take the ties off and re-tie them around my bra straps so that they stay hidden...works like a charm! Smiley

I like the very first one!  I am shorter too and wear a size 12.  I don't have bigger busts....but I think something with a pattern hides /downplays certain curves that you may not want to be seen.   I have the cutest black wrap dress that I got from Ann Taylor LOft.   Have you ever been there ?   I just loove that place as I can always find something for my shape.  They also have petites too!   ~Ronda

You gals are all so darn helpful!  Thanks for all of the support!

Thanks for the ebay link EMJ!  The embroidery work on that collar is great.  I'll have to look around ebay some more.

DJ - I really like both of the dresses you posted, would you be willing to email me where they were from?

Jewellk - That's a good idea about using the ties to go around your bra straps!  I will definitely try that with that style of shirt.

Ronda - I haven't been to an Ann Taylor Loft, but I'll look to see if there's one near me.

Thanks again ladies!
