For a boy, the short list is much shorter - David or Michael. These are the only two we both like! We haven't decided on surname yet though. If we use DH's name, I think Michael is probably out (Michael Mitchell? Doesn't work!) If we stick with my name, we can use either.

I went to school with a Michael Mitchell!

My personal favourite name is the one my friend's wife insisted point blank that they give their daughter. She'd always loved the name Iona and when she had a girl it was just non negotiable.

Their daughter is called Iona Carr.

It makes me giggle, which it totally inappropriate, but I can't help myself.

That's OK, GIAGirl, just have them send me the robe... probably it will be the only garment that fits!

When I was in college I had a crush on a boy whose roommate was named Justin Case.  Really, truly.

Seemed like a pretty normal guy, considering.

I'm onboard here... my college roommate had some friends with the last name Rhodes.  No surprise here, the kids were Sandy, Rocky and Dusty.  Grin

Wedding plan update: The historic estate museum is out, we're too small a group to make it worth the expense. I've got a 10AM appointment tomorrow with the historic estate-turned hotel/resort/club.  I really enjoyed talking with their rep one the phone... we could have some fun together.  Best part about this choice is that they are flexible and we can have the wedding, reception and guest rooms for out-of-town guests all in one – beautiful – location.  Heck, it is so nice, we MIGHT just hideout and have our honeymoon there... Meanwhile, I haven't called the third choice country club yet. It is a beautiful, historic place, with Jefferson-designed architecture. This sounds terrible, but, many club members are very rude to "outsiders" when my son's swim team competes against their swim team during the summertime... I just can't bring myself to make the call to inquire.  Undecided We'll see how the other place goes tomorrow morning.

I also knew a guy named Rocky Rhodes.  His younger sister was my roommate.  He was actually a "IV"-- his real name was something quite conventional.  His father and grandfather ("III" and Jr.) were Dusty and, I believe, Sandy.  His younger sisters were Susan, Mary, and Anne.  I guess their parents only had the energy for one creative name per generation  Grin.

My co-worker that I cannot stand told this one: her son is named Colton...he was one of twins, if both had survived they would have been named Remington and Winchester. (side note: Winchester, Va is about an hour from here)

Oh, did I mention she lives in West Virginia? Or was  that apparent by the gun themed names?

My best friend has a family friend who was obsessed with all things disney, anyways she had two daughters, one who was named Disney Magic, the other one had one of the princess names as i recall.

Oh, DEAR!

Have I shared with you my rule for picking out a good name?  Take your name of choice and say the following in your best news-anchor voice:
The President has nominated [insert name] for Supreme Court Justice
and
This year's Wimbledon champion is [insert name].

This way, you can see how the name sounds in an adult context.  Is it too fluffy to be a judge's name?  Too serious (or too lacking in a good nickname) to be a tennis champ's name?

I tend to lean toward really old-fashioned, serious-sounding names-- Louisa, Josephine, Matilda.  But if they were sports stars instead of (or in addition to  Grin) lawyers, they could be Lulu, Josie, and Tilly.  For me, that versatility is ideal.

That is a good one Robin!  My friend once suggested that when picking out a name you should practice yelling it across a room, ie.:

"Michael David Whyte Mitchell!  Get over here now and pick up your dirty socks from off your father's loose wire collection!!"

ROFLMAO!!! Grin

I used to live in one of the less lovely areas of Glasgow and a neighbour there had twins who were called Dipsy and Lala, after the tellytubbies cartoon characters.

Disney Magic takes the cake though. I'm going to suggest that to DH tonight. Disney Magic Mitchell, yer dinner's ready...

OK, here is today's wedding plan update:
We've chosen the location for the wedding and reception. Estate-turned hotel/resort. I'm extremely excited.  The facility is not only beautiful, with a golf course, walking trails, three pools (thankfully one is inside for our winter holiday!), tennis courts, spa, club house, restaurant and scrumptuous rooms  and suites for traveling guests (and the bride and groom... we're probably going to plop ourselves right there for our Honeymoon Weekend), but, the entire place is very much my style; lots of European influences with a wonderful mix of antiques, yet it is all made to feel comfortable and accessible, not stuffy.  I just love it!  The property was once owned by Laura Ashley's husband, and a lot of her decorating still remains. I'm ready to move in... can you tell?

Also, the local Sherriff (who lives next door) has been "bugging" us to do the ceremony, so he'll be officiating.  And, we're going to ask a "Preacher friend" (as they say in these parts) to be a part of the ceremony.

Tonight's assignment is to finalize the guest list (I'm thinking smaller now) and come up with a possible menu so "B," our contact at the resort, can give us some prices. (B is wonderful BTW, and THAT fact alone is HUGE to me). Menu suggestions are quite frou frou, so, this will be the most expensive component of the event.

Invitations are the next critical step, as well as securing a photographer, florist, and musicians (all already recommended by the hosting facility... B cn manage it all if I don't care to *PHEW*).

There IS an advantage to getting maried on a Friday evening during winter... people and places are actually free to work at the last minute.  If we'd decided on getting married in May this year, our goose would probably already be cooked, so to speak!

It is hard to find the perfect dress!  I never thought it would be so hard until I looked for some on line...not an easy task.
