oh yay!  this is one of my favorite topics!!!  wedding location and reception location have been booked....dress has been picked out but needs to be purchased, same with the shoes.  bridesmaid dresses have been picked out & THEY ALL LIKE THE DRESS! i got beyond luck with that one!!  invitations have been chosen & will be ordered in january.

my only real details still lurking...

what to put him in....
the wedding is on a sunday morning, is a tux to formal?  do we just go suit route, but his mother wants to see him in a tux....ack...

photographer...i need to find someone who is very flexible about what i want.  i only want someone to take digital pictures, burn them onto a CD, and go away.  i dont need 500 glossy prints and parents albums and blah blah blah- i can do that myself.  that and i have a budget...

DJ...lets keep it simple folks...please dear god no crazy disco lights and smoke effects...its a sunday morning...and also then theres that pesky budget again!

over the christmas  break i will really focus on finding a photographer and a dj...

I think you can tux it, but what does he want to wear?
Congrats on getting the bridesmaids to agree, how many do you have, and what color(s) are you using?
Have you thought about a friend and iPods, or getting a local college radio announcer to be the DJ? Maybe a college photograpy student?

I could play Gounod's "Ave Maria" and or Massenet's "Meditation from Thais"-- I've played at some of my friends' weddings :-).  If DJ's gonna be spinnin' some tunes, then I wanna be there, too :-).

the wedding is june 15, 2008...

he is a super casual guy, he is not one for fancy wear so if its a tux it will be a very basic one.  we probably will go this route to make his mom happy.  she wants to see her little man all dressed up.

i have six bridesmaids including the maid of honor, my dress is ivory and theirs are lilac.

as far as trying to get college students to do it, i understand that i could save some money but i also want to make sure that the person who will be an important part of my wedding is experienced and reliable.  i just have to start researching.  my budget isnt super tiny for dj & photographer but it isnt unlimited either.

we did cut out quite a bit to save money so we have some extra to spend on other things.  we are having the ceremony and the reception at the same place so we're not renting limos, the catering hall provides all flowers, china, linens, and the cake, i am not having a professional videographer (theres a story behind that), we are having a limited bar (sorry to all the lushes), and we went for the less expensive sunday morning over a saturday night.

i have pics of the rooms for the cocktail hour and reception....

the ceremony take place outside at a lake, i have seen so many weddings there and i lawyas knew thats where i would get married...

thanks!  it is literally right next to the high school that we used to go to together.  the lake where the wedding will be held is where we used to hang out during lunch and open periods.  it's really special to me since that's where our relationship began...aww i'm getting all misty eyed now...

Techically, for a morning wedding, a morning jacket would be correct.  Dinner jackets (tuxedos) are to be worn after 5.

A description, from Wikipedia:

A morning coat is a single-breasted coat, the front parts usually meeting at one button in the middle, and curving away into a pair of tails behind. The reason for the cutaway front of the skirt is to allow the wearer to ride a horse more readily. The cutaway front is curved for a morning coat and horizontal for the tail coat. The lapels are usually peaked, not notched, and there are two buttons in the back of the waist. The coat can be grey or black as part of morning dress, and is usually worn with striped trousers. For weddings only the groom and bride's father are traditionally allowed to wear a grey morning coat, though this rule is less strictly enforced today.

I quite like them, as they look beautifully formal.

And correctly, diamonds are only worn by married ladies and only after luncheon!

That's why UK aristocrats favour coloured stone erings. You can wear them in the morning!

There's a great book full of this stuff here, DeBrett's guide to wedding etiquette. Not suggesting anyone would want to follow it to the letter, but it has the odd useful hint! Also, DeBrett's etiquette for young ladies...

yea, we arent exactly worried about etiquette, i think if we were our families would actually feel uncomfortable being there.   they are very laid back people.

My DH wore a morning coat for our Sunday morning wedding, and it was quite lovely, but honestly, you should do whatever you are comfortable with.  Just make sure the invitation specifies the level of formality so everyone feels comfortable.  How fancy is your gown?  The place looks gprgeous!

since it is during the day it will be semi formal, which will be noted on the invites.  my dress is an a line gown in satin with a swiss dot lace overlay embellished with some beaded appliqués.  im going for all ivory and it has a chapel train.  the back laces up and it has a bit of an older time period feel to it.

This will be lovely!

What do the sides of the dress look like?  Is that a cutaway area, or is that where the appliques are?

And Jen... one can pick and choose which rules one likes, can't one?  <G>  Just check out the morning coats to humor me, Sanchica.  They're delightful, I assure you :-).  I really wanted them for our own wedding, but it ended up being at 5 p.m., which is, it turns out, a tricky time for men, sartorially speaking.  Is it that dinner jackets are suitable after 6? Or is it 5?  Or is it...  Well, anyway, we ended up going with dinner jackets.

--Dr. Manners (And remember, folks-- only two more white-shoe-wearing days until next May!  So go wild!)

the appliqués are all over the dress.  you can see them in the small picture if you look closely.  i really love the dress, the sweetheart neckline helps emphasize a curvy shape, instead of just round lol, and the train isnt to much to handle.  i laso like how the lace overlay keeps the dress from being shiny, im not much of a fan of shiny materials on not so skinny people, especially myself!  once i start doing fittings i promise to post pics!

Oh, I love that gown, could we get a pic of the pearls too? I love older pearls, they have such a sweet light that eminates from them...
