Aw Awestruck.  Your story is so bitter-sweet.  I am glad that you and your husband had a beautiful day together with family and friends.  I am sure all his 'polaroids' are bringing him great joy.  Hugs to you, Honey.   friends

I think everyone has their own reasons.  For us, and this is very personal but I will share it, my DH is Catholic and has been married before.  We were married in a Methodist Church as he has not had his first marriage annulled.  The plan (although we seem to have gotten nowhere with it!) is to have his first marriage annulled and then repeat our vows in a Catholic service.  Just feels right to us.

And no diamond or ring changes either.  That's really not what this is all about for us.

As for what do you do at a renewal, well I think it's a lot less rigid.  We plan on having a small gathering of close friends and family and sitting down for an intimate dinner afterwards - maybe a speech or two but only because we want to.  Cake, definitely, but no 3 tiered mega expensive thing.  We'd love to have the service at Fountains Abbey in England but I don't know how that will work out - we need to look into it.

Go for it DJ. Have a wonderful day and enjoy it for whatever reasons.

GIAgirl, I love that second dress you posted - WOW!!!!  I wish I could pull off something like that!

Lynne, that dress is gorgeous - I love the ruched, cross-over style bodice.  I would imagine you were stunning in that.  So, so pretty.

Okay, I am off to find some more pics - I don't have any pics of the dress I have tucked away.  I would take some for you all if I could remotely squeeze into it right now!  LOL!

Man, do I have to do everything around here?

Wow Lynne, thank you. And you too, DJ. I guess with all the joking I do around here, it's difficult to see when I'm being serious. I truly had no idea about the renewal of vows and I thank you both for sharing. I will definitely look at it differently and not so myopic from this day forward.
Hugs to you both. I need a cup of coffee so that I can wash down this lump in my throat. Love you both...

I think that was the dress that the Bush girl just wore recently...it was only like $12000.00.  To me it better have platinum in it for $12000.00.

Just to let you know...the girl who was the wedding dress shop owner on the apprentice made like $1 million a year, but whose counting?

Hey if you were my paramedic, I would be on death's door saying "where did you get that ring?"

Oh that pink gown is something else!  I think it would be spectacular in ivory - WOW!

GIAGirl - over $1m!!!!  Well, I guess I know what business to get into when we move back!  Good grief!

Here's a dress that I have spent many hours drooling over.  I'll include the link for more pics as it took me ages to pick up just the one below.  I guess I just love the OTT gowns!  When else will you be able to wear a dress like this though!

Not for anything DJ but can you imagine what that thing weighs? Does it come with it's own wagon?

I love dresses with this drape fronted skirt.  There's a proper name for it that I can't remember to save my life - it's old fashioned sounding.........well that's going to drive me nuts!

I know.  I have a problem.  But how cute is this flower girl dress!  Especially if one were wearing the fishtail dress with the black sash.  WOW!!!

OMG. I seriously thought I was the only one who did this. It has been my shamefull little secret until now that I still stop in the magazine aisle in the grocery store and drool over the gorgeous wedding dresses in the bridal magazines and scan the internet for the new bridal couture lines that come out in the spring and fall.

This is the dress I wore at our wedding in Mexico. I sold it and I have regretted it ever since. I still check from time to time to see if I might find it for sale again. I'd buy it in a heartbeat (for the right price of course). *sigh* I love this dress!

I love your dress Mindi!  I think it looked better on you than the model though - it was very pretty with your dark hair.

I can't say that I've ever trolled the internet for wedding dresses.  I just never had the urge.  Maybe it's because I can wear the jeans and shirt that I got married in to the grocery store on any old day I want, lol.
