She hasn't had very many happy 'out of the blue' type surprises.  And it's soooo much fun to play the Fairy Step-Monster  angel9 instead of the Nevil Step-Monster  tongue2 for a change!

But if you want Nevil Step-Monster stories, just talk to my DSS - he's got a bucketful.  I ride him for not doing his chores, for not turning in his homework, for stuffing his dirty socks in the living room sofa, for fighting on school grounds (not this year, so far  cross).  I can only hope that like Nicki, he'll turn around when he grows up.  If we don't kill each other first! Grin

What's really weird is that we get along ever so well when we're alone, but when Dad is around - look out!  evil7

One man's mum is another man's monster, but thanks for saying that, OMC. It does make me feel a bit better about it all.  Poor kid was raised with no boundaries, no rules, no responsibilities.  And at his age(13), it's not likely to change a significant amount untill he does grow up.  Hopefully, he''ll start to see that maybe other ways work better.

Did you see Nicki's wedding band is yellow gold on the outside and white gold on the inside?  That just makes the white and yellow gold setting all that much better.  And Nicki is happy, I couldn't ask for more!

Don't beat yourself up, that sounds like a normal healthy parent-child relationship to me! Seriously, you don't want to raise a man who doesn't pick up after himself, has no work ethic and thinks with his fists, do you? Knock it out of them early, that's the ticket haha. As long as you have good times together too, it's balanced and normal (from what you've said). If you love him, you'll get it right most of the time and I think that's as much as any parent or step parent ever manages. Sadly, these little people don't come with a manual! Good luck and you know where we are if you need to vent!
