When my husband and I got married, we were not in a position to get me an "engagement" ring. Fast forward 3 years in to the marriage and we found ourselves in a place where we could finally afford one. I wanted an asscher cut diamond and began researching online. I looked at various websites like local and not-so-local jewelers as well as Blue Nile, E-Bay, etc.
My various searches ultimately brought me to a diamond forum where consumers and professionals participated. After lurking for several months, I finally registered and tested the waters in participation. That is where I found David and DBL. I emailed him many many (did I say many?) questions about various diamonds he had in stock. I emailed him about diamonds he didn't have in stock.
When we spoke on the phone, he instantly put my at ease. He was so nice, jovial and approachable. He made me feel like a long-time friend and family member. He answered all of my questions and never pressured me to purchase anything. He did spend lots and lots of time on the phone and online discussing with me the "virtues" of each diamond I had questions about. He even took pictures of the diamonds together so that I could compare them side-by-side. I was considering 2 ECs and an asscher cut diamond. He took away any and all anxieties I had or may have had about purchasing online, sight unseen (except lots and lots of photos).

Well, not only did I purchase my ER from him, I also bought a diamond ring for my mom from him and a "Thank you" gift to my realtor (yes, realtor) from him.
My ER is a 2.28ct J/VVS EC in a custom platinum setting. My mom's diamond is a 1.09ct F/I1 RB in a platinum setting. The gift for my realtor was a pair of U-V princess cut earrings. My realtor was COMPLETELY shocked by the sheer beauty and sparkle of the earrings that she called me up and COULD NOT stop raving about them for about an hour!
My mom's reaction? Well, many of you know that we purchased a diamond ring for my mom for several reasons. My dad was dying of cancer and she has never had a diamond. My husband, brother and I thought it would be nice to get her her first diamond while he was still with us. She was jumping and running around the dining and living rooms screaming "I got a diamond! I got a diamond!" and then promptly began crying. Well, my father passed away 2 months ago and she has hardly worn the ring in that time because it's just too painful right now. However, I know she loves the ring and will most likely start wearing it soon. (BTW, I snuck it out and cleaned it with the vinegar as discussed per this website so when she puts it on, she'll be BOWLED OVER by the sparkle and beauty of that diamond!).

Sorry for the long post. DBL has been part of some very very special memories that I have and I am very grateful to David and his crew for making them so memorable! THANK YOU!!

So back to my title for this thread. I was very apprehensive about ALL the (at times contradictory) information out there about diamonds. My head was spinning! David took so much of the guesswork out of it. His diamonds are all well cut and his jewelry pieces are impeccably made. So yes, I am spoiled. I know I can go to David for an absolutely gorgeous diamond. I can go to him as a friend and jeweler who always has my interest at heart.

What an eloquent testimonial Tea!

You're such a sweet person. I'm so glad you finally have an engagement ring....and a whopper at that! I love your EC. It's beyond beautiful! And it's the prettiest setting I've ever seen. I can't get over those scallops on the sides.

You're so sweet in getting your Mom a diamond ring too. I'm glad your Dad was able to see it and see your Mom enjoying it before he had to go. I hope someday soon she'll be able to wear it & enjoy it, without feeling sad.

I can't believe you gave your realtor earrings too! You are just amazing! I bet she was just blown away!

Wow, what a heart felt post!

First off, I'm again, sorry for the passing of your father.  I think when your mom is stronger emotionally, she will cherish the ring you, your husband, and brother purchased for her and will wear that 24/7.

Your ring is just breath taking and one of my favorite solitaires EVER!!!

And wow, so nice of you to buy your realtor a pair of earrings from DBL too!

I just love your DBL pieces!     You said the most perfect statement about David having our best interest at heart.  That speaks volumes.   Another great testimonial!   How thoughtful of you to give your mom such a beautiful, sentimental piece.   I wouldn't be surprised if your realtor gives David a call if she ever considers purchasing a diamond!   ~Ronda

That emerald cut shows off a beautiful combination of elegant lines and shiny sparkle.  I love it!

Your mother's ring looks huge for just over a carat!

Congratulations all around!

This is such a sweet testimonial!  And how wonderful that you were able to buy a ring for your mom while your dad could see the joy it brings her.  What a kind and thoughtful person you are.

Thank you! So sweet Pandora and Foxy!

WM: I don't think I can go 15 years without an ER... I would GO CRAZY!

This experience with DBL has unleashed a gigantic obsession with diamonds that was just lying dormant for so long. Now, it just keeps growing! I bought a loupe the other day and I found the GIA laser inscription on the diamond! It's teeny-tiny. I could only make out that there is writing... barely make out "GIA" and there are numbers following... that's it. Maybe I need to get a 20x or 30x loupe instead! And I can't find any inclusions at all in the diamond (VVS).

Hey Tea, I know they make 20X loupes because I have one. Not sure about 30X loupes though....that's cool yours is inscripted & you were able to see it! I don't think any of my diamonds are laser inscripted---I've never noticed anything on their girdles.

Thanks Amy! I was actually initially looking to buy a 20x loupe but the place I looked at only had the standard 10x. I wonder if there is any jewelry supply stores in town... and how do I find out about gem shows?
Would be fun! Not sure who I would drag with  me though... probably my cousin who is just starting to get interested in diamonds (after she saw my ER, grabbed it, tried it on, etc. She is thinking she needs an upgrade and her DH is NOT pleased with me about that!)

I don't think David generally sends his diamonds for the laser inscription but I specifically requested for him to send it back to the GIA for that very purpose. He was great about doing it! Part of the reason it took so long for me to get my ER. I think it's worth it though! I was freaked out about the stories I hear about diamond switching and with a VVS stone, I didn't want to take any chances. I did not have the laser inscription with my mom's I1 though because I can easily make out the inclusions with the loupe (and be able to identify the diamond).

Due to the thread on shoes, I'm in the mall yesterday with my husband and mom looking for new clothes and shoes for all of us. We all left empty-handed in the shoe department  Roll Eyes

Anyways, as we walked by a mall jewelry store, one of the salespeople were outside and came up to me to ask whether I wanted a free jewelry cleaning. I take off my DBL EC ER and handed it over to her. As soon as she looked at it, she could not stop commenting about how beautiful the diamond and the setting was (setting once but diamond many many many times). She even hailed the other salesperson in the store over to take a look at the diamond. He also raved about it. While she was cleaning it (the machine was just outside the store since it was a promotion), I could hear her still commenting on the diamond (talking to herself). When she handed it back to me, she said it was the most beautiful diamond she has ever seen. Wanted to know all the specs on it, where I got it, etc.

LOL!  That's awesome tea!  It must have felt so good to hear that.  It's always good to have someone comment let alone drool like that!  I carry a little stack of David's business cards in my wallet to hand out when someone asks.  It would be great to see that salesperson here on CDI!

Oh tea... ya gotta love that!  That is a hoot, someone who works in a jewelry store saying that your diamond is the most beautiful diamond she has ever seen!
