...a .70 ct light green chameleon square quasi-radiant cut diamond?

I'm thinking ring. Halo or baguette surround, platinum + green gold.

Any other ideas? Any more precise ideas?

We've got until October to get this one done, and it's a secret. So, shhh. Don't tell my DW.

Ooooooooooooooo!!!!  I knew it was going to be something special!  WOOT!  What about a 5 stone with this in the center and slightly graduating sides?  That would be lovely!

And thank you for not making me wait, OMC!   bighug

I didn't know you lived in Europe!  I love Europe!

Can you share anything else, or is that too personal for the forum?  Apologizing in advance if it is not appropriate.

I love this one OMC!  I'm going to think more about what I would do with it though... I love the idea of the baguette halo.  I wonder if it would be possible to find little step cut traps?  I'm seeing step cuts next to it for some reason.

You would not want to do a pendant like this http://rockdiamond.c...p;action=show_detail

I wonder if you could put a green gold bezel?

...mmm, I just think that a stone that size will get lost in a three-stone setting.

I like the idea of the traps though - on the corners of the halo, so it's following the shape of the centre stone. And I agree: step-cuts are the first thing that comes to my mind too!

Unless it's something like this - perhaps with the centre in a bezel? What do you guys think?

The pendant is lovely, but don't you think it's too small for a pendant?

Actually - evil idea: a ring that can be transformed into a pendant (VCA made a few of these in the 60s/70s)... pity the poor goldsmith.

Yep. 75% gold 25% silver is greenish-yellow. Not green enough to enhance the colour, though. At least, I don't think so.

This is a DBL piece in green gold (and yes, we had the same ring done in pure yellow as our ER!)

I had also thought of a bezel.  I know that I sometimes wish I had a ring where the center sat flush with the band.  Something that I could wear when I was afraid to wear something with prongs but still looked great.

OMC!  They still make that semi-mount...I have seen it.  Ring by day...pendant by night.  I am not sure where though.

OMC-what a fun project!!!  Can't wait to see what you decide Smiley

Having owned a piece in green gold, I think for your light green diamond I would set it in all platinum.  The green gold is quit warm in color.  The coolness of the .70ct rad would better lend itself to being set in platinum.

Not wanting to hijack so I'll keep it brief!  Mikla, I am a Brit, married to an American and we currently live in Holland.  We lived in Germany for 2 years before moving here.  Right now, Germany is a 5 minute walk from my house and Belgium isn't more than a short drive away.  It's a beautiful place to live with access to so much!

Quick update: some subtle questioning (at least - I hope so; fortunately DW is a trusting soul...) brought up the boule as a firm favourite, rather than a halo. Another example below - just imagine one single large stone rather than three.

Now the two $64,000 questions:

1. "Centre" stone setting: bezel or claw/prong?
2. Shank and ring body will be in platinum. But what about the setting of the centre stone? Platinum or green gold? (bear in mind the stone is light green, not "even" FLG)

So, what would you do?

OMC, I have to think about all this, but, I do seem to prefer the idea of platinum over green gold.  I am imagining, next to this particular stone, that the green gold would look more GOLD (dirty yellow) than it would GREEN... and the stone may look more blue...  *SIGH* but, then, perhaps this contrast could be interesting...

Shoot, that doesn't help at all. Sorry.

Perhaps this would be easier if we had a theme.  For example, the color of the diamond is fresh and watery, like the sea.  Maybe setting it with some little pearls, either alone, or mixed with diamonds, would be pretty... I'm kind of at a loss regarding where to go with this, I guess.  dontknow

OMC, I am a little confused here (story of my life!). Are you set with your overall design, or is that still open for discussion? For what it is worth, I'm seeing a kind of a classic design: double-tiered boule with a bezel around the center stone (which would come out of the second tier to create a third "level"), and maybe some beading between the second and lowest tiers. Now that I think of it, little seed pearls mixed in might be very pretty and feminine (but, good luck trying to keep them all in place...AGHHHH!).

Nothing set, really, apart from the boule concept.

Now, one thing you seem to have decided is that the centre would be best set with a bezel. Which I like. I also like the idea of the pearls - if they could be set safely in what is by definition a rounded shape.

Actually, the "theme" that plays very strongly in my mind is a deco ring by R B. It had an oval 1.19 FLP bezel-set in yellow gold and small EC emeralds to each side, all set in a platinum boule covered in white diamonds. In a sense, I am tempted to replicate this (maybe with two EC sapphires or FY diamonds; or pearls - contrasting colours at any rate). However, ours is not a large stone, and it's a delicate colour. So I keep going back to a simpler design, a bit like your description; would skip any beading and try to set the stones as close as possible to each other, using different sizes to fill in the space.

So, I think we have an answer to question number 1. Bezel it is - unless someone wants to plead the other case?

Question #2 remains open. I know green gold is not green, but green or yellow it would add an interesting contrast, especially if the centre stone is the only other "colour" accent.

I've always loved this ring, maybe contrast would be nice with the Radiant bezel set in Green Gold and the rest of the ring in Plat and white diamonds?

Thanks DL - this gets pretty close to my idea (apart from having RB, rather than square cut, and not having invisible setting but claws on the rest - and of course the colours)
