My boyfriend secretly slipped something into my handbag a few weeks ago.  I found it while I was at my friend’s house about to go out shopping.  Lets just say there was a bit of jumping up and down, and few happy tears.

It’s stunning in person, I’m still in a bit of shock. My boyfriend said he just couldn’t bear the thought of someone else having it.

I’ve loved DBL for years – and I’ve long lusted after a Roger Dery cut stone. Thanks so much David, it’s truly amazing.  The tourmaline has so many personalities, the green goes from grey to lighter olive, and the change in colour from green to pink is in just the right spot. It’s long and elegant and I love it (can you tell!).

My dearest and I have a bit of a joke about having a ‘box of jewels’ (and he’s previously bought me a topaz and a fluorite, which are very pretty although not from DBL).  But this is just too beautiful for let sit in the box…..but I’ve got no idea what to do with it.  That’s not true – I’ve got heaps of ideas, including various 3 stone rings, but given the size of the tourmaline all my ideas would end up costing a small fortune and it would be quite a large piece to wear. But I’m not complaining, it’s a pleasant problem to have  Cheesy

Thanks again David (& Roger, of course!).

That is so sweet. And what a cool gemstone. You MUST tell us what you are going to do with it.

Diamonds are like people, put them under a microscope and you`ll always see a flaw but hold them up to the Sun and each and every one is beautiful.

Congratulations! Have you thought about a modernist-style pendant?

I designed one for DW for a blue-green elongated tourmaline and a few diamonds (and then found out that a chap called Jean Fouquet had had a very similar idea in 1925...). Unfortunately, the tourmaline had sold by the time I got the design really together.

I have always wanted a watermelon tourmaline. My suggestion would be an E-W setting for the tourmaline with a  bypass type mounting with diamonds on the N-S .... does that make sense? Lucky you! It is a beautiful stone! whatever you decide will look gorgeous!

At nearly 1 inch length, E-W is not a likely option...

If my husband did something like that I would have to have him checked for a brain tumor or something because he has never once picked up hints I am dropping about loose or set stones.

Super awesome!!!!!  Very happy for you RubyMu

Rubymu, I'd love to see it in a simple setting with a smaller pair of tapered bullets at the shoulders, like in the pic. Nothing massive.  I don't think it needs anything overly fancy at all.
