Thanks, DJM! I want to address this, however I am about to take DS to swim practice. Here are some QUICK thoughts...

No, the rings styles don't match. However:

1) I think it is fair to say that you prefer contemporary designs over all others for yourself. I remember everyone going around, and around, and around for quite sometime here trying to determine the "perfect" ring style and design for you. Also, I remember that you were absolute in your likes and dislikes; you were remarkably consistent. Smooth and contemporary. And, you wanted a long, thin, yellow baguette.

2) I remember being surprised at the time because your style preference seems quite different from your wife's style preference.

3) Mrs. DMJ's jewelry (at least the jewelry pieces that I know or remember) has NOT been smooth or contemporary in style. Instead, her look has been traditional and often textured. A little classic with a twist. Quite elegant as well.

4) Knowing we have two people who KNOW and APPRECIATE each other's styles, I think it is completely appropriate to have two differently styles rings.

5) The LONG TALL YELLOW STEP-CUT DIAMONDS tie the two rings together.

6) I can't see Mrs DJM wearing a ring in your style and being ultimately satisfied, and I can't see you wearing a ring in her style and being ultimately satisfied. So, given that each ring/style is PERFECT for each wearer, I think this is as good a match as we are going to get here. To speak in a language that I KNOW you understand, DJM, it's like in home design... the theory is: if you collect what you like, even if the styles of your collected objects are disparate, because YOU like each piece, ultimately, they will all sit comfortably alongside one another. YOU are the link.  In this case, YOU and your understanding of what ticks each of your boxes, is the link. The yellow step cuts act as another, important, visual link.

7) I give you BIG KUDOS for understanding and embracing Mrs. DJM's taste, while not giving-up on your own.

This is hastily written, and certainly open to criticism... however, I've got to run... late as usual... perhaps I can explain better from the car once I get DS to the pool (I'll have two HOURS to sit in the parking lot).

Just my take on things.  dontknow

Couldn't have said it better myself T. Just as I thought...you nailed it.

Here's the back story.  As you know, DW owned an upscale women's clothing boutique for 13 years.  Early on, when I would go on buying trips with her, I was amazed at how she put things together by finding an element that was consistent yet not too matchy/matchy. She hated when things matched. I learned so much from her. It really hit home the time she ordered a leopard fine courdoroy mini skirt and paired it with an Italian silk paisley print blouse with dark brown outlining on the paisley instead of the usual black. I never in a million years wouldve put the two together...but I wasn't the buyer...I just maintained the books.

Since I was her numbers guy (and I couldn't keep my thoughts to myself)...I calmly told her that this was too much of a risk and that since we were buying from two different vendors we shouldn't bank on it working once we got delivery. I tried to explain that we'd no doubt end up selling them as separates. We had sort of an argument, lol, but she was positive it would work. Since the minimum was 4 per style at 200 dollars each wholesale (which means we'd have to retail it for $400.00...for one freaking blouse) I was trying everything I could to discourage this order.

She stuck to her guns and we placed the order.

Three months later, when the delivery shipped, she made a beautiful window display with this outfit. I admitted it looked pretty darn good...but then again she was always a great merchandiser. Three days later I was eating crow when she asked me to call the vendors and place a reorder. She had sold out of every item.

Here's what I learned from DW: I learned to love contradictions in fashion...whether it be clothing, jewelry or home. I love hard and soft together, I love something highly textured with something smooth, leather with silk, granite with grass, stripes with prints. I love contradictions and I love allegories, as long as there is something that ties it together.

So, this pairing of classic with modern is so "us". It's like you said the long yellow step cut diamonds are the visual link and ties it together. And....you are so right when you said that you can not see Mrs DJM wearing something highly contemporary and being satisfied. I think you said it perfectly when you said her style is classic with a twist. She is very feminine and big contemporary jewelry does not appeal to her. But she does like a modern take on something classic or period. For me, I like more contemporary pieces because they appear more masculine to my eye. Once again, you picked up on that.

OOOOOOH!

Ok, when I was choosing my emerald ring, one of my problems was that this one was marked 'sold' by then. If it hadn't been, I would have grabbed it!

Glad it's going to a good home, I hope she absolutely loves it!
