I won't have it until next week.  Modelling by Sandra will have to do until I get back.  It is heavy, 10.3 g platinum on a 4mm, size 5.5 shank.  David had troubles with the stone, it wouldn't sit still to have its picture taken!

teeny tiny claws

And the profile......

Wow. Such absolute, exquisite, understated elegance. This is a KILLER, timeless piece! Congratulations. I can't wait to see a photo of it on your hand. Meanwhile, we'll all just gasp at the eternal beauty on Sandra's lovely hand.

Oh my goodness!  That is one stunning ring!

I absolutely love the "floral" feel you get from this ring.  I think that heavy shanks is perfect for the stone too!

I can't wait for you to get this one and share us more pictures.  It really is perfection.

Thanks everyone!
I have been really nervous about this project since it is more sentimental than the others I have done.  DH had wanted to keep a traditional feel like my original solitaire but I wanted to tweak it a little.  It isn't quite real yet....not until it is on my hand.

Also got to give David props, he was very patient.  We had started this project a little while ago, he had found the stone and we were just figuring out the setting.  My Gr-ma became ill very suddenly and passed away.   Cry Normally vendors are not particularly sensitive but David offered to pack everything up and put it aside until I was ready to continue.  Quite a nice gesture.  Kiss

Shiba I am so very sorry for your loss.  I have to say David is a very understanding guy and any person with a good heart would have done the same for you.  I think it came out wonderfully!!!!

I totally understand about being sentimental.  I had the same thing with resetting my Sunny.  I took almost a year to figure it out myself.  I think you picked perfectly and can't wait to see hand shots - well your hand shots Cheesy

Shiba, I'm sorry for your loss.  I keep coming back to look at this because I am in love with the tulip prongs and the smoothness of the ring.  I'm also salivating over the diamond.  Could you tell us the stats?  She looks quite substantial in size.

My guess was at least 2 ct.  You're going to draw a lot of attention with that one.  Absolutely magnificent, both the diamond and the setting.

You could honestly do whatever you want with a ring like this.  I think with a substantial shank like this, it would be wise to go with a wider band as well (as long as your finger could take it).  I see all kinds of options with this ring.

1) Simple band same width/thickness
2) Channel set of similar width/thickness
3) Scatter band of similar size with whatever you like
4) Floral etched band that will tie in the wonderful head of the ring
5) Shared prong diamond band
6) a bunch of stackers that could be anything you want Grin

Yeah the last one is totally not helpful.  But really that was the order of a band I would look into if it were me.

In my eyes the focus is going to be on that ring due to the lovely size of it.  I would let the engagement ring be the focus with a more simple band to go with it.  I think a channel set would fit better with feel given how classic and fluid this ring looks.  I would actually prefer more metal in the band than diamonds if it were mine.

Really you can't go wrong though.

Have you gotten the ring back yet?  I'd love to see it on your hand as well Smiley

Hey, Shiba:
Will you be wearing the ER and the WB together?  A shared prong eternity band  would look just smashing with your solitaire.  Plus, you'd be able to split up the two and wear the ER as a RHR and have tremendous sparkle on BOTH hands.  My second choice would be a matching platinum band (maybe with a surprise diamond on the INSIDE, just so it's not without bling), that is if you have enough finger real estate.

Hmmm... What about 2 eternity rings, about a quarter the width of the band to be worn on either side...

Thatīs what I would do. I think it would give you a lot of options. Wear them both, just one, neither. Stack them on the other hand with something else...

Iīm officially coveting your tulip solitaire.

I was thinking that, too. You can never have enough diamond sparkle :-)

Got home too late to get any sunlight so these will have to do for now.

There is not enough contrast but if you look closely you can see the stone through the petal.

And a really craptastic hand shot.  It makes the stone look grey and dull.....but it gives an idea of size.

I tried on a bunch of rings while I was in AZ.  The 3mm scatter band was ok, the shared prong was ok, the channel set was ok, the plain 3mm was ok......it was not helping!
The 4mm was too big proportionally and then I tried a 2mm which I would have thought was too thin.  So I put another on the other side and it gave a really cool look, it was all about the center stone and wide.

So I think I will get my other rings taken apart- I have 2  channel set half eternity bands.  And work on getting 2 plain bands.
