Hello ladies,

This is somewhat related to Jewellk's OMC Re-Set post.  I sold her my OMCring last year and purchased an OMC pin from the Victorian era.  I always thought that the center OMC was about 1.6/1.70 cts because I was told that the pin contained a total of just over 2 cts in diamonds (it also had some tiny OECs).

Off I went to see a jeweler to look for a possible setting for the stone (I am thinking of selling it and wanted it to be in a setting that was true to its age).  Imagine my surprise when the center stone turned out to be 2.09 cts!!!  I was floored (in the most wonderful way of course  Grin).

I love, love, love the stone!!!!!!  As you can see, there are some superficial scratches on the stone that my jeweler says should not be a problem to have polished off.  He says the stone is in great shape for its age (over a hundred years old) and there are no structural issues.  He found one teeny tiny spot off to one side (I have yet to see it for myself).

Here's hoping that the photos post:

Fantastic!! I love the shape of the diamond! And look at the great open culet!!!! For a stone that's so old, it looks fabulous! It'll be fun to see how you set it! The possibilities are endless!

Did they say what color the diamond was? It looks WHITE!!!

Congrats!

Thanks for the kind words!

The stone is L color, VS2 clarity, with some fluorescence which I'm sure is very helpful in making the stone face up really white.  The only angle from which it shows color is from the profile.

I thought about setting it into a pendant but sadly, I am needing to pare my collection down drastically for financial reasons.  This baby  Cry will probably be sent to the GIA or EGL Los Angeles this week to have certified before I try to sell it.  My jeweler says to not bother having it certified but to instead have it set in a vintage setting that is true to its age, but I am not sure yet.  Seeing that I am not really a diamond seller/dealer, and I  am considering selling on the internet, I figure I should have the stone certed.

Any opinions?

Gracie, hey nice to meet you!  Your diamond is BEAUTIFUL!  I'm learning to appreciate all different types of diamonds, and yours is no exception.  It is so unique looking, with personality!  If it were mine and I was going to set it, I'd definately do a ring, because I enjoy them more.  An antiquey looking platinum setting would look awesome, or with a halo...goodness, so many choices! (But of course that is just my opinion, and it'd be awesome no matter what you do with it.)  I don't blame you in the least for getting an appraisal done if you decide to sell, that way the customer knows what he/she is getting, and it would probably be easier to sell that way.  Good luck at whatever you decide to do!  You have one beautiful diamond there!
Again, nice to meet you!

Hi Ladies,

Here are some more photos.  Oddly enough,  these photos makes it look more cushion-y than (off) round.

Sorry - didn't mean  to confuse you.

When I actually viewed the photos on my laptop, the stone looked very very elongated.  It's obviously an issue with my monitor setting  Embarrassed.
