Well I hope Mrs DJM is a naturally calm person because if it were me and my husband had traded one of my rings (doesn't matter which one), he'd be immediately Bobbited!   Grin

Be warned DJM!!!!

Uh yeah . . . that's a real gamble . . . unless you know that she doesn't care for the original ring that much . . .

Whoa...whoa...whoa. Hold on one minute. Before you start hanging me by the you know whats...this is not what you all might think. (geesh--is there some unwritten Diamond Defense League I'm not aware of?)

Allow me to explain.  There are certain things of DW's that have sentimental value -- I WOULD NEVER CONSIDER TOUCHING THESE WITHOUT HER APPROVAL. (...namely, her Wedding set, 3 diamond "mother's" RHR, the Brown Diamond "powergirl" ring or her DBTY necklace).

On the otherhand, (excuse the pun) DW always wanted a yellow diamond radiant. Shortly after I purchased HOY, a friend invited us to a colored diamond show which we attended. DW tried on a number of beautiful yellow diamonds and I could tell she was smitten with the larger stones (she would NEVER say it). Anyhow, when we got to the car I told her that I really wanted to get her a larger yellow. Her reply was, "Honey, I already have a yellow". She never knew about DBL's Trade-up Policy so I explained it to her. I told her..."some day" I'm going to trade that one for a bigger one. She just smiled at me. ( Slam dunk!!).

Okay, that information makes it all better!   angel

Don't worry, be happy!  We wouldn't express our opinions if we didn't care, you know?

Gotcha.  I didn't mean to start a trial by fire, just wondered if she might not be sad to see it go since she was touched when you got it for her.  Sounds like a good plan though.

Now that we know she tried on all those rings, was there was particular style setting she seemed to gravitate towards?  Maybe you should go with a halo like CH's if she liked the halo in the first place?  Besides, they make the centers look even bigger - always a good thing! Grin

You know GL... I have been racking my brain trying to remember. That day is such a blurr. I was getting dizzy because the sales lady kept grabbing my wife's hand, putting rings on it, one after another. On top of that,I had sticker shock, so I was focusing more on that part.
There weren't any ovals in the collection--that's one thing I remember. Mostly radiants with side stones, only one halo. A few wide filgree bands with a mix of yellow and white diamonds.

Whew, djm...I was really sweating it on your behalf for a bit there about the surprise trade up too.  Glad you put that to rest - sounds like you've done your due diligence on behalf of the DDL (Diamond Defense League, ha!).  Apparently you've saved your coconuts again, just in the nick of time.

Moving the discussion up to a "35,000 foot view" for a moment (from all the minutia and worrying about  determining ring details) to remind you again that you really can NOT go wrong here. That stone is such a gorgeous one that no matter what setting you choose, it will be stunning, and she is going to love it. And she is going to reward you mightily with much wonderful ADS, I'm sure!

I was in the mall the other day and I walked into a jewelry store. The case was LOADED with halos, but in my opinion I did not see ONE as pretty as HOY. The salesman marveled at my ring, he loved it! Anyways, I looked at this teensy weensie diamond band and I mean TEENSY. They wanted $1500.00 It was 14k with maybe 15 pts of diamonds? HAHAHAHA!!!!!!! Well HOY and I went to church today and we are about to go out Sunday shopping. Don't worry, DJM she will love it! If my DH did this for me I would be so thrilled, I would jump for joy and then... evil4 (censored)

Oh, my.  I've been off doing other things this week and I'm completely out of the loop.  Khrystal, HOY is absolutely a knockout on your hand.  Congratulations, you must be thrilled. The piece is to DIE for.

Now, while we're on the subject of DYING:

DJM, your wife must either be a saint or an extraterrestrial (I'm giving her credit in the saint category).  If my DH EVER swapped one of my rings without my knowlege or consent (regardless of the "final" outcome), if he weren't already, certainly, he would wish himself DEAD. Make no mistake, there would be no whoopie making for the remainder of our marriage (this is where the "till death do us part" promise becomes real meaningful), because he would have nothing left with which he could make whoopie. Nothing at all.  violent1

Geesh, DJM, you ARE nuts.  Send in those coconuts...

Well, I'm guessing he's taking a calculated risk based on what he knows about his wife! We know she likes surprises and that she didn't veto an upgrade of that particular ring, so it's gonna be fine! Everyone's different and it's a stunner of a yellow diamond. Opening that box would be wonderful!

I'm with you though, Trinkette. A husband who took to trading in my property,  especially a ring, regardless of the motive, would have a limited life expectancy. Here, the Married Womens' Property Act prevents husbands disposing of their wives' property without consent. DH would be looking at jail time if he pulled a stunt like that! Grin

But then, I've always been reasonable about these things...

dontknow I think I have it under control T. We had already established that HOY was not her final yellow. So... In actuality, I did get consent. *give me a little more credit than that*

And...DW is a SAINT. Afterall, she's put up with me for all these years. I'm a very lucky man.

If anymore coconuts are flung at my head I'll get a concussion.  Undecided

Hmmm DJM I don`t know whether to hit you with a copy of " Men are from Mars and women are from Venus " or to pat you on the back ...
I form emotional attachments to my jewellery, especially if they have great memories attached to them as well. I recall the story behind giving her HOY ....
BUT you know her far better than we do and you seem to be confident you`re doing the right thing so good luck with it.

Thanks Lynne. Yes-- there is no question that DW forms attachments to some of her jewelry. I know which ones mean the most to her.

Let me share something here if I may. About 4-5 years ago, DW sold her (very successful) business to join me in mine because of a "problem" I had encountered with some very evil people and an embellzement scheme. I always prided myself on being a good businessman, but quickly realized (the hard way) that anyone can get duped. Very humbling.

Anyhow, I never asked but DW realized that I NEEDED her during that time. I remember the exact day as if it was yesterday. DW was getting dressed early one morning at 7:30am. I commented that it was way too early for her to go to the boutique and asked why she was getting ready so early. She looked into my eyes and said: "No honey, I'm going to your office. What happened to you is NEVER going to happen again". Three months latter she sold both her stores.

This is extremely hard for me to post because it's not something I like to remember or even talk about. Long story short, DW sacrificed everything to help me. She wanted to sell everything she had (including her jewlery), to do what needed to be done to help--she is the most selfless person I know.

Throughout our life together, she has sacrfiiced to make all my dreams come true. DW has always been at my side. She put me through school and residency, supported my decision to go into the military and helped me start my practice 23 years ago. She gave me three beautiful children, putting her career off to raise them. Above all else, she is the best mother to our children--they absolutely adore her.

So, you see Lynne, what matters most is that we are together. The piece is not as important as the "moment" that was made when it was given. It's just "stuff" as she puts it. Because of this, I LOVE indulging her.

I told you I was lucky.

GiaG--I DO HAVE BROTHERS!!! Three of them--all spoken for.  Wink

I feel really badly -- this thread was to honor Khrystal and her beautiful ring -- somehow it got off on this tangent. My apologies to you Krhystal.

Anyhow, I am so happy that you LOVE the ring and even happier that a CDIer has him.  (Yep--I said "him"... good ol' HOY BOY looks great on your finger!!!)  Smiley

Enjoy and all the best to you K1968.

Funny, I kind of think the same thing. I wonder if HOY will bring me luck? Anyways, HOY and I are resting comfortably now after a day of shopping. I went into another jewelry store today to show HOY off to the saleslady there. Her eyes nearly popped.  radiant I wish I could STOP buying shoes!

Yes, yes khrystal, mega huge good vibes associated with HOY, and it sounds like you're already enjoying them.  Major congrats on the awesome trade-up!!!!

um, djm, no offense to your brothers...... but I'm wondering if your DW has any brothers!!!!??   Grin

It is clear that she is one amazing lady, and it is wonderful to see how much you know that to be true AND how much you SHOW her how much you appreciate her.  So, Kudos to you both!!!!!  The world would be a much happier place if that happened more often.
