Hi,
Here's a few photos. My photo skills are a little lame, and I haven't got any of stones to sparkle for the camera. They look better in real life, and I'm giving them a bit of a showing up here. I'll try to do better on the next sunny day!

The little baby pear earrings will soon have a big friend! (gosh. did I mention my new DBL pear??)

Thanks - DH picked it out and had it set in platinum. Only gave him a couple of million hints (with drawings attached) so he did pretty good!

Now that I've figured out how to post pics, there is no stopping me I'm afraid!

You have some beautiful pieces!

I have a question for you that is sometimes asked: how do the customs charges work for shipping items into the UK?  I am married to an American and can ship here duty free but it would be helpful to have an idea on the cost for other Brits considering a purchase.  Obviously with the current exchange rate it is even more advantageous to buy from the US right now.

I got a kick out of the title of this thread!  Thanks so much for gracing us with pics of your gorgeous collection!!   I am especially in love with your pear shaped diamond earrings!   As far as we are concerned, you can mention your pear shaped pendant anytime you want to!  In fact, it will go beautifully with those earrings!   Oh I am in love with those! The pear shaped earrings that I was considering buying from David has sold.............. Embarrassed   Oh well I guess you snooze ...you lose!

I think you should consider selling your pendant that you are considering having your oval removed from if you decide not to give it to your friends daughter for her 16th birthday.    You must think the world of her to consider giving her such a gorgeous and generous gift!  ~Ronda

The customs charges can be quite steep. I ordered the studs last year and I got hit with a customs charge of £179 before Fedex would hand them over. The studs cost around £900 at the exchange rate when I bought them, so that is quite a high percentage.

Of course, it didn't help that FedEx lost their record of my payment I had a huge fight with them about it. I payed over the phone by card, to get the package quicker. Next time, I would send a cheque by registered post.

Still, it was a better deal than trying to buy something comparable in terms of cut quality in the UK, so I'd say go for it! It's well worth it to get exactly what you want and at a good price compared to the stores here. Some of them are excellent (others aren't) but they are expensive.

Hope that helps.

I agree Jen.  I get home a few times a year but I am always flabbergasted at the prices in the UK stores.  I know so many people hesitate to buy outside the EU because they just don't understand the customs implications - if only they knew they would still save a bundle!  Especially with the current exchange rate.  We get paid in dollars so going to England is very expensive for us right now but the other way is delightful!

How big are your studs and what is the quality (not meaning to be nosy).  I'm betting you would have to go to one of the expensive UK jewelers to get anything so nice and pay dearly for the privilege!

Ronda, thank you! Glad you like the title - my family would shudder, because it is all too true! The pears will look sweet with my necklace but I have a feeling I might want to go bigger. So no surprise there then!

I would like to turn the pendant's remains into a birthday gift - I do think the world of her, she was my bridesmaid and her mom was my MOH. Plus, she is quite the little jewelry fiend already, so I know she'd love it. My other thought was to get her one of those little 0.25 asscher pendants that David has on the website. But then I would want one for myself too!

DJ - the exchange rate is great for us right now, makes it almost silly not to buy diamonds from the US! The studs are 0.49 each, I SI1 and VS ideal cut. They are nice and I love them but I kinda wish I'd found this site first. I would have loved step cut studs of some sort and of course, I now have a yellow craving. Ah well. When I priced comparable cut and quality here, it was way too expensive. It was also very hard to find such high quality cuts. A couple of high end stores had their own branded ideal cuts, but most just sold 'round brilliant cut' Would have cost way more than I would have been willing to spend if I went with the branded cuts.

I was thinking the same thing: it is so hard to find well cut stones in the UK.  Doesn't stop the prices being outrageous though!

I went into a maul store (and one of the better ones) recently and they raved about their ideal cuts. I asked to look at one with my loupe and idealscope (a handy thing to carry in your purse). The temperature dropped by about 20 degrees. Instantly.

My eternity band is a 1.5 shared prong band and it is very well cut. DH got that in a store here, I think partly to stop me going on about not being able to get such things here. However, it was a special order and it took 7 weeks to arrive. From the US! Ha. I love it though and it was a gift for our 3rd wedding aniversary.

Thank you for all the nice comments!
Bigred, pendant is being put made at the moment, am hoping to see it soon.

Rubymu, Thank you! I love my ering and I love how simple the setting is. Doesn't stop me wanting serious bling on my rhr though! There is indeed something green in there. It was my first attempt at buying online. I bought a 0.70 ec emerald centre stone and used a pair of .25ct rb studs for the sidestones, had a local jeweler put it together. I didn't know much about emeralds and it isn't a great stone, but I'm fond of it. I tried again later (I'm a slow learner) with a 0.69 pear cut emerald, which I had set in a really plain whitegold full bezel. That turned out really well, it's a lovely dark green stone, but I cant get a photo of it that shows the colour. Are you a lover of green sparkly things by any chance??

Oh, and here's a little something that the guys at DBL ran up for me...

More excited than ever, I would walk to New York if I thought I'd get there one minute sooner than fedex could get this to me.
