Man, do I have to do everything around here?

DJM, since Annie and I are both newlyweds, could you give us guides on giftgiving for  husbands? Mine will never answer when I flat out ask for a list to choose from, or even him to point.

This is an easy one EMJ. I'll post in a few hours--check the gift giving thread after lunch.

As for GL's husband letting the list rot in his wallet--you're making it too easy for him. Sounds like you'd rather pick things out for yourself and he knows it! (Boy, I'm starting to sound like Dr Phil 1087)

Oh no, trust me.  He has a zillion pictures I have given him lying around.  Want a little story?

When we were first dating he was telling me how he once bought his ex a "beautiful" rose dipped in real gold for Valentine's Day.  She thought it was terribly cheesy and laughed at him, devastating him.  I told him that while I agreed with her that the gift was a bit cheesy, it would have been nice if she pretended she liked it.

Fast forward this past March.  Our 5th anniversary.  I purchase DH a large flat screen TV for our bedroom, as we were always forced to watch downstairs due the small size and strange angle of the small one we had up there.  This is after a 40th bday gift of a signed football from his personal legend.  Anniversary arrives.  Nothing for me.  No card.  No present.  No flowers.  Nada.  Let me preface this - he knows full well I like anything from David, he knows the name of the website, and he has many photos I have given him of things I like in various price ranges.  That night we have to go to someone else's party where he works.  At 10pm I turn to him and say "Really?  Not even a card?"  He excuses himself, and returns 20 minutes later with a card he has just printed from his computer.  The next day, when I express my, um, surprise at how he has noted the occassion, he insists that something is coming anyway.  At least a week passes.  The doorbell rings with a package.  I open it.  What is inside?  A rose dipped in real gold.

I rest my case.

GL, you are the model of restraint. I would have been so mad the entire neighborhood would have heard it.

I too remember that story GL.   He will never do that again --if he knows what is good for him.    YOu may need to purchase your own light saber! LOL!

Omg GL! It sounds like your DH and mine were cut from the same mold! At least it wasn't the SAME rose he gave his ex! DH has done that to me!!

We were watching the Food Network one night about a guy who makes gourmet ice cream and sells it online. I must have made some comment about a neat flavor or something because my birthday gift was an ice-cream maker attachment for the kitchen-aid mixer. I don't eat ice cream very often at all. DH eats it every night.

However, a few days before he gave it to me, I apparently went on a rant about how appliances were NOT gifts for me. Maybe if I were a chef or if I really loved to cook I would like appliances for gifts, but that's not the case. I can buy my own coffee pot, thanks! Anyway, I also got a gift certificate to a day spa, purchased the day of the rant.

*sigh* Gotta love 'em though!

Every now and then though he will surprise me with a gift that I actually like.

lightsaber i would get for myself...  but never in a million years would i ever give it to her as an anniversary / birthday gift...  a couple of friends of mine have those sabers...  and yes i must admit they're pretty cool!

as far as buying clothes and shoes for her, DJM you're a braver man than i...  lol when she wants to buy clothes i just go with her...  i don't think my taste is no where near as hers...  lol...  if we're talking about diamonds and jewelries, that's a completely different story...

omg GL i would have been so mad too!  i think i'm that kind of guy who will never forget dates...  in fact it's more likely for her to forget than i...  since i usually get gifts early...  wayyyyy even before the date...  hhahaha

GL, that's a really...um...well... story.  i have a husband who gave me an atlas once (years ago and never to be repeated) for my birthday. granted, we both love traveling, but i like more personal gifts. he finally learned that, after 30 years of marriage. By now, I just tell him what i want and he indulges me. what's up with men???
