Awww, that's not an annoying story, it's a heartbreaking one.  It sounds like you really wanted it.  I've admired the platinum and diamond bracelets with sapphires or rubies for quite some time, I just couldn't get one in really good condition at a price I could afford.  The one that I do have is in really good shape, and it's beautiful, and I got it for a really good price.

I would blatantly ask him what outfit he is going to wear it with tell him that you really wanted it and if he wasn't going to wear it himself you'd like to have it, as you've been in the family a long time.

Thanks for the sympathy -- and the suggestion!

Before my previous post became completely self-absorbed, I had meant to comment on how strikingly, elegantly beautiful your own watch is!  And, for me, the fact that you pursued it as a serious bargain makes it all the better!  Well-played, DAF!

[snip]Last year I bought a lucian picard gold, emerald and pearl watch that belonged to the actress Barbara McNair ( she was a caberet singer and starred in a movie with Elvis in the 60's). I bought it from her son.

And you are not attaching a picture?!?!?!?! Shame on you!  Grin

Sorry OMC, I didn't see this post until now...... here it is.
