Somewhere around here we were looking at some antique e-rings, which I (naturally) can not find.  Roll Eyes

Nevertheless, I had a quick trip to San Antonio to visit with my seniors and managed to get a few shots of my father's mother's diamond.  Mom was quite flattered that there would be interest in it.  Obviously - she doesn't know us very well, now, does she? Hehehehe.

I apologize for the quality, I only had my phone with me - it was a bit of an unexpected trip.  But having looked at her wedding set and this, my absolute favorite;  I now understand why I like the warmer stones so much.  That's what I grew up with.

Anyway - here's what started my love of diamonds.

and the obligatory hand shot....

And T - next time I'm there, I'll get a shot of Mom's set.  When I was cleaning her rings, it struck me that had her band had the little dip like BLOO's BFF, it would have matched what you envisioned almost exactly.

VERY beautiful Ah2, i especially love the trim line around the diamond, it was hard to tell from the pics what it was, but it is the perfect detail.

Oh very lovely!  I am a big fan of vintage pieces!  The most recent purchase we made was from a ring made in the early 30s.  And I have two vintage pieces from family myself.  One from 1925 and a hand carved signet ring from 1920.

I can't wait to see more of what your family has and any history that goes with Smiley

Ooooh! I missed this somehow.
Beautiful ring, I love that era. The stone is beautiful, you cannot beat old cuts.

Lovely piece. Ah2, do you know the approximate size of the center diamond?

Beautiful piece, AD!  I love how us CDIers are always the ones to clean the jewelry of family members whenever we go to visit.   Wink

 hello

I'm truly clueless as to the actual size, color, clarity, or cut.  I'm thinking it's just about round, so maybe an OEC and somewhere in the 1+ ct range, but with the setting it's in, it might be smaller.  Of course, should it come down to me eventually, it'll be off on a trip to visit David, and make sure all is safe and tidy, and maybe get some educated guesses about her.

Dad was born in '11 with 2 older sisters, so the ring, itself, dates back to the very early 1900's or very late 1800's.  Guessing again, the workmanship is probably Mexican, as most of the family diamonds came through there, where one old Gordon great-great was a jeweller in Mexico City.  I know my Mom's diamond, which came from one of Dad's aunties, was also from that collection.  My sis has some old photos of what looks like a parure of diamonds worn by one of the great aunts.  Family tales have it that the girls used to go to NYC once a year to refresh their wardrobes.  Quite an adverturous train trip back then, coming from south central Texas, as they did.  Unfortunately, there is no history as to what happened to the diamonds in the course of the last 100 years or so.  Sad

And Annie, it's a dirty job, but SOMEBODY's got to do it.  Might as well be those of us who care, right?   Roll Eyes We're none of us particularly AR or OCD about things, now are we?  Grin

Super interesting Ah2, I think I mentioned my father lived in Mexico City with his family when he was a teenager in the '60s-'70s and all the opals and jewelry from my grandmother i posted http://coloreddiamon...lisons-collection/0/ are from Mexico as well.  Smiley

Yes, I remember that collection very well.  You've got some gorgeous deep gels that are just divine.  But I really adore the turtle.  It's just too cool.  An opal turtle.  Too cute!

I only have the one opal piece, which is from about the same time period a Grandmother's E-ring.  It was the first 3-stone ring that I fell head-over-heels for. It must have been close to 100 years ago- I was still in college.  http://coloreddiamon...wels/tiffany-baby/0/
