Well, it was reset exactly as it was before, so she was happy to have it back, but that was the only real surprise. I think they were relieved too because as much as I have been telling them how wonderful everyone at DBL is, they were very susicious of my having found them over the internet and did not completely trust that they would not switch the stone. Duh! Of course, when they read the appraisal my dad said "OK! Take it off! Back to the bank!" Sooooooo lame!! I convinced her to wear it for the evening, but it probably will not see the light of day much. She also showed it to my 3 year old son and said "Here's your college education." Um, first of all, I think they have NO idea what college costs now and second, if that lady tries to sell it she will have to explain it to Sally first!!!! Hmm, I think dealing with my parents is making me regress into teen speak!!

AZ I was thinking the same, that GL would be the new owner... "Back to the bank?" Sometimes parents are just old fashioned... Nothing will change their mind... *sigh* It's the thought that counts!

So my 91 1/2 year old grandmother who this amazing ring originally was purchased for moved much closer to my parents about 2 weeks ago. I was thrilled, especially since I knew that this coming week my son and I would be staying with my parents while some work is being done on our home. I called her Monday morning to invite her to lunch, but her social calendar was so booked that she couldn't see us til Thursday.
Fast forward to Monday night, and we get a call saying that she has had a stroke and is being taken to the hospital. Last night she was able to look at me and acknowledge me, and shake her head yes and no or gesture to answer questions, but try as she might she could not get one word out of her mouth. She did manage to take a look at my hands to see if I had any jewelry on (nope - too swollen these days), and she was very particular about the diamond earrings she was wearing (oh, and the amethysts in her second holes) and wanted us to adjust them so they sat better in her ears. I went back today and she cannot even open her eyes, even though she is trying and desperately seems to want to communicate. This is just so hard. Anyway, sorry to drag down an otherwise fun night of diamond viewing, but given she would love each and every one of your pieces, I thought it would be fitting to share with you all and ask for good wishes and prayers for her here.
