LOL!! Oops, sorry T, I forgot that I was suppose to follow up on this thread. (You guys are relentless--nothing gets by you...)

After all that, I'm afraid this is going to be anti-climatic--please don't throw coconuts at me.
I've decided to go with Mrs M's design idea. (Thanks Jen). Wink

Wait. What. Mrs M's Design Idea? Or letting Mrs. M's "letting DW decide" idea?

Better safe than sorry...If your wife threw coconuts it would hurt more than if WE threw them.

A very wise choice, if I may say so!  Grin  Less risk of damage...

I really hope you enjoy designing the setting together. For me, that's the best part (other than opening the box). DH and I can spend hours on it, visit B&M stores, try stuff on, have lunch, drink cocktails, do some sketches, go back to the B&Ms under the influence of the cocktails....

Looking forward to seeing the finished piece.

I like the "drinking cocktails" part.  Wink

You know, I think the four of us should go out together (after the baby that is)...can you just see us drawing sketches on our cocktail napkins?

Imagine the four of us going into the B&M's under the influence. We'd be thrown out for sure. I'd be doubled over in laughter.

Still here, Joia! Got 9 days to go...

DJM, take you up on that for sure! I can barely remember cocktails, but I know I liked them!

I don't know, seems to me that Mrs. M.'s cupcake story trumps DL's front wheen story.  dontknow  Regardless, you guys would get booted out of the restaurant for sure.  Wink

Regarding your final decision, DJM... wise move, my man!  You two will have a blast planning her ring together.

Still trying to decide if DJ was just being nice. Without blowing her cover, she really is sweet to me behind the scenes.

Don't any of you believe this.  It's coconuts at 10 paces at all times............. Wink

I wanna hear all about how she falls over when you give her the oval!  When is the big day?

You like me and you know it.  Cool

DJ, I thought the big day wasn't until June or July... am I off on this one?

It's not until the end of July. Remember, I'm planning that secret weekend get-a-way? I've lied to her so much up to this point that I'm going straight to you know where. I told her there was a mishap with HOY when the bench person discovered that one of the prongs needed to be replaced. Also that D was so backed up, etc, etc. Actually, I'm kinda surprising myself. It is getting so easy to lie to her, I'm coming up with this stuff right off the top of my head when she inquires. In the past, she's always told me that I'm a terrible liar. Hmmm, now I wonder if she thinks something is up?

I am really glad you decided to let her decide djm!  It may just be personal projection (DH did arrive home from a trip yesterday with the two most horrendous pendants I may have ever seen - the reason he has been banned from any expensive jewelry shopping), but I think for a big ticket number like this is it best to have her input.  Cannot wait to see what you two put together!!

Isn't it lovely when they make a thoughtful gesture?

trade you a pendant for a salmon and herb frosted cupcake? Grin

Honestly, if it were not for my fish allergy I would be giving it serious consideration!

DJM, I think you're making the right choice, anti-climactic though it is.

Mrs. M, I love your cupcake story for two reasons:
1) it shows what a sweetie your DH is
2) it demonstrates that somewhere, albeit over the sea, is someone who is an even less competent cook than I am.  Yay!   Grin

When Trinkette said to down scale the whole trip thing, I just can't. I am in over my head on this one--it is so over the top. She 's going to kill me. LOL!

Here's the thing. When I was planning our "romantic 3 day get-away weekend " I was trying to think what I could do to make it even more special for DW. So here's what I did: on the second day, I've invited her maid of honor/best friend/college roommate and her husband (who was a college friend of mine) as well as one of my groomsman and the guy who "fixed us up" with his wife to join us as a surprise. I paid for their hotel rooms so we can all hang together and yuck it up--we all went to college together and are the best of friends. IT IS GOING TO BE A BLAST and she is absolutely going to LOVE IT!!!. (Has anyone seen the BIG CHILL? That's us--only difference is that we all married each other after college).

I just realized something... You know you've been married a long time when you plan a romantic weekend and then get excited because you asked your college friends to join you.  (Does anyone think that is weird?)

Anyhow, with flights and luxury rooms and show tickets etc, etc... (yes, even clothes for DW) I've already spent a small fortune. If I add the oval on top of it, she is really going to be stressed afterwards. I can't scale back the trip because I made the reservations and already told our friends.

I'm bad... (and loving it!!!)  Muwahhahaa... Evil
