If there aren't diamonds in heaven, I'm not going!

« on: April 04, 2008, 05:21:20 AM »

So I have a new project in the works!  Many of you will know that I bought this little baby to put into a pendant:

What you don't know is that I also bought these to make matching earrings:

Here's my design that I just sent to David.  Now we get to wait it out.......

What size diamonds do you think I should put on the leverbacks above the halos?  I was thinking maybe 10pters.  Whaddya think?

Fantastic DJ!!! I really like things on the diagonal--it has such a nice feel to it.

I say go larger on the leverback diamond accents (.19-.20) You're talking about the one in the bezel-right?

Great drawings BTW.

Oh yeah! Now that's a project.

Fantastic stones, DJ and I love your designs. I'd agree with DJM* about the slightly larger stones in the bezel part of the earrings. While they shouldn't compete with the cushions, they shouldn't get lost either.

Can't wait to see this set, it's going to be stunning with your asscher.

You and I have similar tastes.  Do you have any advice on picking brown stones?

Good luck with your "little" project!   woohoo

Thanks Mikla!

Advice?  Only one bit: buy from David!   Grin  No, seriously, he gets some browns that will knock your socks off.  My asscher is an orangey brown and it flashes some stunning colors - it is not flat at all.  I often see rainbows in it which you just wouldn't expect.  Many of the browns David has at the moment have orange in them and I can't recommend that color combo highly enough.  Just to give you an idea of how fabulous it really is, I love it over every other piece I own - including my 3.65ct yellow radiant - and the radiant is astonishing!

My asscher will NEVER leave my collection.  I may be sleeping in a cardboard box under a bridge one day, but my hand will look darn good in the process!   Grin

That pendant and earrings will be something else DJ but I`d go for diamonds a bit bigger than .10pt. My Mother had a saying " why spoil the ship for a ha`peth of tar " and those browns will bling beautifully with slightly bigger diamonds on top.

Thanks Lynne.  So far everyone is leaning to bigger......and I am always up for that!

Thanks SB!  I'm not an artist but I do love to draw - especially jewelry.  I toyed with doing freelance design for a while.  I even had a jewelers in England who would have employed me.  Unfortunately, living in Holland isn't conducive to working for a small jewelers in Darlington!

I think buying from David is a given at this point!   Wink

I like the emerald and asscher cuts because of the house of mirrors effect.  With browns usually being SI, how do you pick a brown for those cuts?

Are you going to have milgraining around the accent diamond in the earrings? Looking at the side-on picture of your ring, it doesn't look like the surprise diamond has milgrain, so you could have it smooth-bezeled as a shout-back to that, or milgrain it to go with the edges of all of the halos.

*is fascinated*

Sit down before you read this.  I did not used to like the step cuts.  I have since been duly educated.  I can't get enough of them these days!

I think my asscher is a VS.  I don't pay too much attention until we're looking at SI2/I1 territory.  If you go for a more saturated color, any eye visible inclusions are not going to be so readily apparent.  Many colored diamonds are only graded by GIA for the color rather than clarity, as the color is more important.  They are a different beast than colorless diamonds.

If there is something in stock that is calling your name, call David and have him talk you through the stone's personality.  He will tell you if anything can be clearly seen and he'll even help you decide between stones if you can't.  Colored step cuts can be hard to find but keep watching because one day the right stone will pop up and you will need to jump on it fast!

Kinda like me and that new yellow EC which has been screaming at me.  You may have noticed I'm ingnoring that thread..........if I go back it will have me bankrupt!

The milgrain is just going around the edges of the halo.  All the bezels should be smooth.  Not that I will fuss if the factory milgrains them anyway.  I am really excited about this project!

You're bad, DJ. You've got me inspired to start thinking about the earring gizmos I was going to put off until after wedding.
