Well, Merry Christmas to me!   pear2

Despite, or perhaps because of, all the mess going on in my life, my mother sent me an incredible Christmas present.  It was not, unfortunately, from DBL; but that she'd even try to find such a thing on her own?  Yipes!  I'm extremely impressed.

I had told her about the pendant I was building with the bloo Jay.  And we talked about an all white vs colored diamond pendant.  To refresh some memories, I was thinking along the lines of a detail from a Shaumet tiara owned by Lala Hasnas.  (detail 1)

I think she just put her 2 cents into the mix.  (Momma, not Lala Hasnas!) Evil

Really quite impressive given that Mom isn't into bling.  She told me she wanted the pink because of PANK birthday cakes from the past (there's a whole 'nother story there), and a heart because, well, because.

Blown away.  Snockered in my snox.  I'm sitting here with her check in my pocket for the family Christmas, and she goes and does this on top of it all.  Been crying all morning again.  Good tears this time.

Yup, and you wouldn't be the first saqsay!  I have whole platoons of girlfriends that want to be adopted after some of our birthday/Christmas wardrobe shopping sprees.   Grin

I still can't believe it's a fancy intense purplish pink heart.  .15 ctw, SI1 (and with a loupe, I can see a piece of schmutz front and center, and some feather from the back side forward - but who cares?)  It's eye clean and full of sparkle, and even that doesn't matter when I think of what Mom had to do on her own to find something like this.

You have to understand, this is the woman who calls me up and has me do all her online shopping - totally computer illiterate, and this stone was shipped from Israel, so I'm thinking internet.

And I apologize for the hideous, out of focus photgraphs, that's the best I can do with this iPhone.  Still haven't unpacked the old Nikon, so no good closeups.  We'll have to wait for David, after I get that FIY asscher to sit betwixt and between. (Hopefully next year.)  It's a bitty tiny diamond, but ful of life and fire with a well articulated heart shape.

Nailed it in one, Squigs!  It is a bitty Pank Thang.  That is just too east Texas!  LOL

Guess I better get it in the mail to David, pronto, before I lose it.  (At least once it gets to DBL, I know it'll be safe snuggled up with the blooJay until I can buy the 3rd diamond and get it all set.)   We got word today that our rental agreement on the pretty little house down the street has been approved.  Time to start packing.  Again.  Roll Eyes

Congrats on the "PANK" diamond (Anyone want to explain to me? Remember, I'm still kinda new here). It's beautiful, and you must be a wonderful daughter for your mother to buy that for you.  I can't wait to see it set.  And take better pictures!

Seriously, what a lovely, sweet and wonderful thing to do, ah2. I'd be in tears too.

You can spank Mommy (ma'am, yes ma'am, MRS. GENERAL, MA'AM!!!)  If you DARE - I sure wouldn't.  She scares the bejeepers outta me and has done so for more than 50 years!

But yes, you will be doing this piece, of course, David!  I will be relying on you to find the perfect yellow asscher to sit between Pank Thang and the blooJay, in the not too distant (knock on wood) future.  Hopefully with a little non-bloo fluorescence - like yellow or white? (knock on wood again...)

Now we might have to sugar coat that Thang since it's so tiny, but I'd truly rather just have her in PANK gold claws.  I'd want the asscher closer in size to the widest point of the pear, or something  like, with maybe either yellow claws or a slender bezel aroung its girdle.  The pear in white gold claws.  I'd like the 3 diamonds to be somewhat flexible, like 3 links in a tennis bracelet, where you can't really see how the stones are actually hooked together.   All over 18k yellow chain with DBTY in pink-yellow-white diamond series down to the heart.  OK, so maybe that's over the top.  I'll just have to take it day by day until I can become a productive citizen again.  Cool  But this is where I'm sort of driving towards....

bigclap for mum.

and

bigclap for you. Nice stone - and the liveliness and colour more than make up for size (if need be, you can always boost that with a pink halo)

What a wonderful, beautiful and fabulous gift. Your mother is amazing and you really do deserve this.

I'm really looking forward to seeing it set - what a lovely diamond.

That's awesome!  A pink bezel would be stunning, but then again, it'll be beautiful no matter how it's set.  Congrats!

PANK.  Well, it's nothing to do with CDI or DBL, but long ago in a galaxy far, far away....

Like 20 years plus when my parents first moved to TX from the east coast,  I was headed down to their new place to spend a week with them over my birthday and Mom had ordered a cake from the local grocery store.  Now, back east, you order a birthday cake with pink roses, you get pastel pink, relatively realistic colored roses.  Not so in San Antonio.  You get PANK roses.  Screaming fuschia and watermelon PANK.  You can't miss 'em, they're so extreme they practically glow in the dark.

Poor Mom was mortified when she picked the cake up.  I thought it was an absolute hoot, and after a couple glasses of wine, so did she.  So for years after, no matter who's birthday it was, even my Dad's,  the cake had to have PANK roses.  Last I heard she was contemplating PANK roses for my Dad's 100th this coming April.  LOL

Of course, we learned that you don't do the cake kicking contest with PANK roses - there's so much color in them there's no way to get it out of the carpet, the placemats, or anything else it touches.  We do that with chocolate cake, unfrosted, after that first year of PANK.  We've also moved it out doors.  Da grandbabies are too big (now in their late twenties, early thirties, and they all have good kicking range for field goals.

A pink tutu for PANK THANG?  Hmmmm, if OMC and Mikla both suggest it, sounds like a plan if we need to boost her size.

...and D, I know you're kidding.  It was just the visual - somebody trying to spank Mrs. General.  I was rolling on the floor!  But she really is an awesome person and a killer Mom, especially since I'm not 15 anymore.

Okay that is so funny and so sweet.  I've seen some of those PANK roses here.  One of the bakeries here has day glow bright colors.  You ask for pink and you get PANK!

I intentionally avoid their bakery because of that.  Though I do like the way the cakes taste.

Oh and in the southern part of my state you'd think you were in the deep south.  Probably why I can feel the pank thang so wonderfully.  My aunt even has a cute little drawl that makes me smile Smiley

Yeah, my family's a bit quirky, but we have FUN together.  tard

david  When the Pank Thang arrives, could you please make a picture of her for the crew here, one that actually shows her color and shape, in focus?  Also, when you're not busy, can you try for a shot of the GIA inscribed number - I just saw she has one.  Can't imagine what that looks like on pink.  I'll send you an email later today.  I expect to get her shipped this afternoon.

And she has FLUOR!  Just a medium blue, but fluor none the less!  blob1   Yipee!

[snip] can you try for a shot of the GIA inscribed number [snip]

Don't hold too high hopes on that one. The inscription is tiny and it's on the girdle, which is the best place to hold the diamond...

But who cares. What matters is what HankyPanky looks without a microscope.  toothy1 wow2 notworthy

Ed Zachary, OMC.  She's a gorgeous little Thang.

What I can't get over is Mom.  It's sort of like 'the amazing thing about a dancing bear is not how well it dances, but that it can dance at all'.  I think that's R. Heinlein.  I know it isn't me.  Still, I think she did uncommonly well.
