Help please guys.  My well of ideas has completely run dry!  I think I want to make this into a ring but could be persuaded towards a pendant.  Please help - what would you do?

Stats:  Columbian Emerald - 2.87ct - 11.4 x 7.9 x 6.4mm

Here it is:

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Well I'd want to choose a ring but I think I'd do pendant given the nature of emeralds. They are a soft stone so it would be safer on the neck.

Beautiful stone.

I agree but then I'd have to walk round with a mirror in front of me so I could keep looking at it!!!!  I always tend to go for rings over pendants .........  not sure I'm convinced about a pendant just yet!  Thanks for your suggestion though.

Any design ideas?

Dear CS -

Not sure if this is your taste, but a couple of trilliant sides would be nice.

CS, what a gorgeous emerald.  I am positively GREEN with envy!  This is not the most "creative" solution, but, it is a classic and one of my very favorite settings (and an all-time most-adored ring).  Plus, the cluster style could possibly be done to give a little more-than-normal protection to the emerald...

If, on the other hand, protecting the emerald is not so much an issue, then, I might think about leaving the emerald alone as a center stone, and flanking it with two, killer-cut, high-color round brilliant diamonds. OMG... to DIE for!

Either way, the world would certainly see you coming a mile away!

oooh, emerald green. just gorgeous. to my eye, it lends itself towards a beautiful ring. since i tend towards simplicity, i'd say mount the pear on an interesting yellow gold (as green goes so beautifully with yellow) band. perhaps a waviness to it, suggestive of Art Nouveau.

This center stone is a bit bigger than your emerald, but ANOTHER classic (I'm not being very creative today... sorry).

Of course, David could always find you two "mind-blowing," high-color hearts as sides...  Dancing_biggrin

CS
I like the thoughts of a pendant. Both of these are for pears but I`d love it in a plain gold setting and floating on an omega neck wire not a chain. Just my own taste of course.

Fancy pendant? Or, you could think of this micro-set style for a ring (pay no attention to the blue diamond or rose gold - AGHHHH!!!!!)  1087

Of course, you could do a simpler cluster-style pendant like the first ring that I posted.

And, Awestruck's first suggestion certainly offers the most protection we've seen so far...

If you're determined to have a ring, I love the halo design that Tinkette posted.  It's such a classic design, and I think that the small round colorless diamond would look great next to your emerald.

My second thought would be pear sides.  There's a reason why that's an old stand by - the look will never go out of style.

Oooooo this is like going shopping but even better!  You guys have got some great ideas (thank you very much).  Please keep them coming!

BTW I'm hoping that David can find me a diamond pear and that will be set with a single baguette on each side so I guess I need something different for this one.

More of a modern, simple style pendant... (sorry the shape is wrong, but, I'm sure that you get the idea).

Then, if your are planning on a three-stone pear ring, perhaps this one should be a cluster or halo style... something totally different than your diamond pear?

Well, if (when) David can find you a nice diamond pear, why not a two-stone bypass with the emerald? Even unequal size stones can work really well, I think, with an asymmetrical shape like a pear.

Or something like this? (I know - this is a more symmetrical stone, but the "halo of baguettes" idea works really well - and Mr D W was a really good designer!)

At any rate, yellow gold + some white diamond accents are a must.

For a ring I like these styles both of which can be used with a pear and will protect the emerald. I have a twin yellow diamond pear bypass which David made for me and it would look lovely with the emerald and a white diamond.

Very cool ring, OMC.

director CS, don't let these guys gyp you out of a ring... HOLD OUT FOR TWO RINGS!  A diamond pear ring AND an emerald ring.  angel

Seriously, CS, just remember, whatever you decide, it is the COLOR that is most important to showcase with a stone like yours. Everything is about the color...

I am totally agreeing with Trinkette. Actually, I thought pendant initially but after seeing that green color against your skin tone, you definitely need a ring so that you can admire without having to constantly look in a mirror. That color is amazing!!! Anyhow, the halo cluster with that emerald looks like royalty. I vote for this one.

I would do a pendant, myself, because having an emerald on my hand would totally stress me out.

That said, if I did a ring?  Totally a three-stone with pear or baguette sides.

Bezel set? I think that would protect the edges.

Oh wow! I was complaining earlier about not seeing emeralds in many shapes and that I'd been DYING to see a pear-cut emerald! That is one FANTASTIC stone.

Like's already been said; I would go for a ring if only because I would want to look at it all the time. How do you feel about David's Legacy Halo settings? I think this, but maybe in a bezel to protect the edges of the emerald, would look TO DIEEEEE FOR.

I am a sucker for pear shapes set as pendants dropped from an RB (sooo regret selling mine),and if you get an 18 inch or more chain you can see it when you play with it,  but if you really want a ring, I think bezel set halo too.

Wow!  Thank you all!  Some absolutely wonderful suggestions.

Okay, one decision has been made!  It's definitely going to be a ring.  The play of light and sparkle from the Emerald is to die for and I really won't be happy having it as a pendant.  So that's that decision!

As for the design ......... still not sure.  I'm not keen on bezel or crossover settings so they're out I'm afraid but I do like the idea of a halo or a simple setting with a white diamond on either side.  I think pear sides may be a bit too big for my hand so am thinking trilliants or RBs.  Has anybody seen a pear with princess cuts either side or would that be an odd mixture of straight and curved?

p.s.  GL I loved your pendant too and I think the emerald would look sensational in that setting but .............. it's got to be a ring!!!

Love the pear!!!  I think a ring is a lovely choice!

I think cushion cut sides would be lovely with the facet pattern in your stone Smiley  I also like the idea of a halo design, I love the one in post #17.
