My diamond!

« on: March 19, 2007, 12:27:00 PM »

Hi everyone Smiley  Such warm welcomes here!!!

Okay... here's my stone that I'm having set - the ring is being designed right now... it is an Old Mine Brilliant according to the GIA cert.  It was cut in 2006 so it isn't an antique... but I wanted a newly cut stone with OMC faceting.  I'm not sure how much info I should put so I'll just put it all LOL

9.53 x 7.58 x 5.01
2.71 carats
J (but it is a low J)
VS2 (but it is a very high VS2)
Polish/Symmetry is VG/VG
Faint fluor
Culet - Slightly Large
Crown Height 20%
Table 53%
Depth 66.1

I think that's it... it is a very funky chunky stone with a TON of fire in all lights... I get fire off of moonlight!  I even have pics of that if anyone cares LOL  Candlelight is amazing... but full sun is just amazing too... it isn't a bright white stone... it isn't like a round, but I have a feeling here is a land (forum) where my stone will fit right in Smiley

So without further adieu... and in no particular order...

OMG, cehrabehra!  What a fantastic stone.  LOVE it.  LOVE it.  LOVE it.  I'm actually shocked that someone cut it that way currently.  I was told that's rare because the old cuts waste carat weight (less profit), particularly with high crowns like yours.  I just adore the old cuts.  That's why I looked for a vintage asscher when I finally upgraded my ER!  It's just spectacular.  She's a beauty!  I can't wait to see the redesign!!!!

That stone is so "lively" and full of personality!   You can see the explosion of color in several of those pics.     Cool    It just STUNNING!   I know that you were deciding on a setting for it,  are you getting any closer to your decision? ~Ronda

WOW!! That is killer!!!! See, as much as I love RB, I'd much rather have an OMB or OMC for an ER over a RB!! Congrats!

No... its my "engagement ring"... haha - 15 years later Wink  We were young and poor and I told him he couldn't afford what I wanted so we'd wait... and I waited and waited and waited and waited.... lol

I'm having a stand alone ring made, though I'm thinking of "just in case" having it so that other rings can sit flush... I'm starting to get sentimental about my wedding band.....

Thanks everyone, you make my heart swell!

That stone is fantastic and sooooooooo big! I love it! You really captured all it's beauty! I love how you captured it's sparkle in your pictures. So if I read right it is being set as we speak. Do you have an ETA yet? I can't wait to see it all set. What type of setting did you decide on?

Yes, the ring is "in process" and there are some pictures on the chat board of an old wax - it is being redone totally but it gives a general idea Smiley

This stone is incredibly easy to photograph and was on the first day.  It has a bit of an unusual look, the strenth of its light return is not THE most powerful punch in the world (well okay the two big pav facets "bowties" really do pack a whollop!) but boy does it make up for it by letting loose color in every direction at every moment!  I have taken fire shots of it by both candlelight and moonlight... here, I'll post some just because I was really amazed!  I even got fire off of the light on the microwave when all else was black LOL  Okay so it wasn't much but I walked away going holy crepe, I got fire off of the green led! LOL

First few are moonlight shots (first one has the moon reflected partly off the table) - and you could see all of this with the naked eye, it wasn't just a camera trick.  In fact this was actually hard to capture because there wasn't as much as say during the day when the stone is blazing and EVERY picture has fire!

The next two are in a very dark room with just one candle lit... the first is a compilation and the second one of the better flares full size... then I stuck in a pic of the stone by the candle (was going for a maltese cross) - its not really a fire shot but I liked it Smiley

Then I just stuck in some random rainbow pics for fun Smiley  First is my dh flashing rainbows on the minivan haha... next I taped a quarter to the wall to show the size of the rainbows those big facets make from about 3 feet - the white is the table.  you should see the size of them at about 8-10 feet!

Next three are pics casting rainbows on the inside of the window frame late in the afternoon, the next one is from the same photoshoot, just a closeup of the back of the diamond...

Another of the back of the diamond, showing its own little fingerprint - its own little pattern of light reflections off the pavillion Smiley

last one is one of the very first pictures I took of the stone on our first day, resting on a mirror and refracting over and again in its reflection Smiley

Okay - thank you for indulging me, I really miss my stone... my quirky little weird stone unlike any other, for better and for worse, for richer but mostly for poorer LOL
