So for Christmas I got a cool pen that has an LED light, UV light, stylist, laser pointer and a regular pen to write with.  It's really cool.

I love looking at things with a black light I admit. Well I have some old earrings and I was playing with the UV and boy did one stone pop up as BLUE!!!

Since they are studs I didn't even notice it, but sure enough when I hold it in sunlight I can see the slight blueish hint to it.  I love it.

Shots are hard to get of this that turn out, but here are are three I got.  One has two mashed together but it shows the matching stone w/o any noticeable fluor (the teal is my camera)

The other is the two side by side.

Hope you enjoy Smiley

Please excuse the hair on the blue fluor earring  Embarrassed

I found out that my vintage ring I own has what I would guess is kind of medium fluor as well.  I did already notice it looks way whiter in sunlight (though it is estimated to be about a G in color IIRC) but it is neat to see.  Sadly I can't get photos of that well at all.

This so makes me want to get more some more stronger fluor stones!

Nice photos. Would you mind sharing tips? I have never (yet) managed to get decent fluorescence photos, although admittedly my small camera is not a good one for low light intensity (Panasonic/Lumix - excellent optics, but the sensitivity of the CCD is on the high side)

I did these with my little Canon digital P&S camera.  I've failed miserably getting shots without a macro lens on my other camera.  This one has a nice digital zoom on it.  So that's what I use now on all my jewelry shots.  I usually zoom in to about 3-4x on the digital and that gets nice shots for me.

I didn't do so hot the first few times trying to take photos.  I tried in an average lit room with the light on it for some reason the UV light just over powered everything and gave that purplish cast which just looked weird.  I also did dark rooms and that didn't work either.

So today I put the diamonds on my window that gets a lot of nice sunlight through a tree and had the UV pen just overhead and off to the side.  That showed the best photos.  Not quite as deep blue fluor that my eye sees, but close enough.

I have total appreciation for the shots David takes Wink

OMC, I just gave a Lumix to my son for Christmas. What a wonderful, high quality little camera. I am very impressed with it (and wish that I had one for myself).

Now, we know the secrets to your fabulous photos!
