So, I dug up this thread because it ended up being mostly about exam horrors.

I had one today, and oh, I was good.

It was a postgraduate oral exam, oh, and it was tax again, naturally. Inheritance tax this time. I think I've already mentioned that my grasp of tax matters is less than robust, so I was nervous before going in.

Nervous. Yes. That is the only explanation I can think of for my getting the first question wrong.

When asked to state my name, I GOT IT WRONG! Yes, I gave the wrong name to the legal exam board. Embarrassed

How could I not get even my own name right?

Somebody shoot me.

Ah well Jen, forgetting names is easily done, even your own ..
When my 3 boys were little and quite a noisy handful I used to try and shout for them to behave. I regularly shouted " Matthew noooo I mean David noooo I mean Lewis noooo.... dammit you all know which one of you I mean ! "
I regularly forgot my kids names  Roll Eyes

Mrs. M. welcome to MY world.  1087

Ahh, well. Really, it shouldn't matter much as long as you got all the tax questions correct...  Roll Eyes

Awestruck, my grandmother was called JimbobharryImeanJanet for the first 20 years of her life. It's a hazard of being part of a bigger family.  Grin

Trinkette, I'm not confident I got ANY of the tax questions right. It's never a good sign when your answers are met with a sharp intake of breath, followed by "okaaaaaaaay, let me re-phrase the question..." Ha!

Thanks, DJM, I know you understand - a fellow veteran of horrible exams.

Annie, yup, more fun than I can begin to describe. Truly.  Roll Eyes

David, I did not get it right in the end - I was driving home when I realised what I'd done. My only hope is that they mark the real me absent and I get to try, try again.  Grin

Ha. I get to do the written paper later today. What could possibly go wrong?!

For years, my Grandmother called me JohnBarbaraTrinkette (ie, my brother's name-my mother's name-my name). Several times, one of the dog's names got mixed up in there as well. And, my Grandmother ADORED me! Sometimes, I do the same now...  xyxnervous

Seriously, Mrs. M, I DO get my own name wrong on occasion. Good to know that I've got a no-name-brain sister out there.  Kiss

And, I think, if the examiner had to rephrase a tax question, Mrs. M, it simply means that you are a CREATIVE THINKER.  Grin

That's right, T!
Miz M - you just think 'outside the box'.  Which can be very advantageous.

And I think we all have sibling names stories.  When I was in my late twenties I finally told my mom that I would only answer to Dammit, so don't bother with the 'judy' anymore - (my DS's name, which always preceded Dammit Ah2bqat).  Unfortunately, it caught on with the rest of the family, so that's what I'm called now.  Aunt Dammit.

Aunt Dammit! LOL!

Tinkette, I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that creative thinkers can find themselves in jail when it comes to tax matters.

Along with people who give false names. Grin

Hey ah - Can we go ahead and start calling you Aunt Dammit on the forum then?  Grin  I'm only half kidding since I can never seem to remember your full screen name without looking it up.

Jen - I'll go ahead and cross my fingers for that re test then.  Wink

Jen,
Did you give your maiden name?  Your mind was trying to cope with the stress and put you on auto pilot, taking you back to oral exams before you were married.  Now, if you identified yourself as Amelia, I am a little concerned.

Jen,

I think you did fine on your exam.  You consistently perform with high marks.  Kiss

When an examiner takes a sharp breath perhaps that is his stress showing because he has to think on his feet to re-phrase the question without giving away the answer.  The re-phrasing was probably necessary because you gave a correct answer, but not the expected correct answer .

As you know, exams are structured to determine the students control of the material.  Sometimes the question isn't worded as needed to elicit the desired response.  This isn't the student's error; it is the error of the person who constructed the question.

Sparkly, I actually gave my husband's name. I didn't change my name when I married, and never before in my life have I been called / called myself Jay Mitchell (Jay being DH's pet name for me). I blame CDI, I picked this screen name as a joke! Not even on my actually marriage certificate would I consent to being called by DH's name. What on earth was I thinking?!

As for the re-wording, well I like your explanation way, way better than mine! Thanks, you've given me hope. Hahaha - now watch me get an outstanding mark, but they won't believe I'm the same person...

I've got it!  The lawyer known to us as Jen, aka Miz M, had spent too much time on CDI directly before the exam reviewing her favorite and most soothing threads.  Shocked into reality by her first exam question, she responded with her most recently reviewed alias.  Grin

we love you no matter what Jay Mitchell, erm Jen, erm Miz M!

LOL!
For the castle-lovers here, just for fun, here's a pic of the law school. It's very pretty, and once I've crashed and burned in my tax classes, I may seek employment here as a tour guide. It's the most positive thing about my education at the moment, a pretty castle. Grin

LOL! I think so too. I must admit, that lovely building  did influence my choice of law school just a tiny bit. The other one I considered was more prestigious, but it was in a collection of drab, concrete city buildings,  further from home, with no car park. You can't accuse me of academic snobbery, at least.  Grin
