Hey OMC devildance!

You da MAN!

You did it! You got this nitwitted Nikon wielder to actually photograph a sparkley close up.  I'm so pleased, I have to do more than 1 shot!   ura1  It was the card over the flash that did the trick.

This is my well worn and dearly beloved IF/J 2 ct center, flanked with close to another ct of  RB diamonds and another of princess cut sapphires.  It's got to be resized, I'm afraid.  My hands have developed arthritis and a size 5 just doesn't cut it any more.

Cool ring!

The sapphires look a nice shade of blue!

(don't worry - my success rate is about 1 photo in 10. The good thing with digital cameras is zero cost of preview and quick turnaround)

Another thing you may want to try is to have a pair of white paper sheets folded to form a sort of "box" open on one side, like this (seen from above) Π, into which you place the ring; this will reflect as much natural light as possible on the object and decrease the need for flash light with its harsh effect.

thank you, David.  You are always so generous of other people's work.  I have to admit, the first time I saw those sapphires, I thought they were fake!  I'd never seen really nice ones before.  Just the ones that are more black and opaque.

I'd been to T---'s and C----'s, and all the 'mall' varieties.  Not really all that helpful or in the case of the malls, knowledgable.  But then, I'd never been to a jewellery store like that before.  They, too, are good people, with beautiful items, an uncompromising regard for quality, and a willingness to take the time to explore and educate anyone with a question.  Phong loved colored diamonds, so they stocked some yellow beauties.  You can understand now why I was so thrilled to find DBL.  It feels like home, only with more friends around and a much larger stock to explore.
