Hi Everyone!

I'd like to clarify why I am so particular about discussions that mention specific sellers.

For me, there are 2 issues.

The first has to do with fairness.
If someone wanted to say Acme.com Jewelers ( fictional name) is a crook, the "accused" really should have the opportunity to defend themselves. The alternative is sponsoring a place where a bunch of folks can gang up on someone with no ability to defend themselves. I don;t very much want to be associated with that kind of place.
So- we invite Acme.com here to answer the criticism.
At which point this forum becomes a platform for another seller. We don't accept advertising from other jewelers- so this is not practical.

But the most pressing issue has to do with liability. If we did allow someone to site a specific business or person, and then make defamatory statements, we'd be opening ourselves up to a lawsuit.

In fact, we would also remove such a post to protect our member.
Anyone who posts something on the internet is liable for what they write- and can be sued if they defame another.
I would ask all of you out there to remember that we are all responsible for what we say.
Here- or on any forum- any person making a defamatory statement( purpousfully insulting... A false statement that injures someone's reputation and exposes him to public contempt, hatred, ridicule, or condemnation) , or libel ( a false and malicious publication printed for the purpose of defaming a living person ) is open to being sued.

It's NOT going to happen to any of our members for a number of reasons
1) We have the site monitored pretty much 24 hours a day. We all hate to censor anyone's words-but we'll always lean towards caution, for everyone's protection. Even if someone did make a mistake and say something libelous, the quick removal of such a post protects us, and the person doing the posting is also not going to be in any danger. Unless the person doing it makes a habit. Again, we won't ever let that happen to any of our members- and we'll always let anyone know privately if we need to change something.

2) and this is the far better reason- we don;t really face these type of problems due to the fact that we have such a high quality membership.
We're like family here.
I don't think the people that make this a great place wold be here if it was the type of place which supported such malicious discussions.

It makes a lot of sense to temper our words if we have something critical to say.

If it's given in the spirit of helping, criticism might help us to learn to be better people.

Anyway, have fun everyone- and let's respect everyone's feeling best we can!

In other words, be careful when you mention company names in relation to criticism. We've learned a lot lately regarding defamation.

As a law student, I think that is a very wise policy. Always better to be on the safe side.

I'm way too busy this year! Wish I had time to post more often!
