Just a question / request:

Is it possible to either have the button bar just below the logo "stick" in place like a title (so that the buttons remain visible at all times), or having a repeat of the buttons at the bottom of each page?

I keep going "Unread Posts" / scroll down to unread post / (laugh, cry, growl, groan, reply) / scroll all the way up / "Unread Posts" again

Silly request, I know, but my fingers are lazy.  Wink

The buttons are always there. So I'm not sure what you mean OMC. Could you be more specific. My brain is only half working today.

Let me see if I get this... OMC, are you saying that you don't want to scroll up to the top of a page, after you've read the page, because that's where you have to go to hit the "Unread Posts" button again? Like, you want the buttons to either follow you wherever you are on a page, or, you want the buttons repeated again at the bottom of the page? In other words, you are an ANTI-SCROLLER?  Roll Eyes

Tsk, tsk, tsk...  Wink

Absolutely correct, Trinkette. I already have minor carpal tunnel symptoms (decreasing now that I use the stick rather than the mouse), and two BlackBerry thumbs. That's enough, I think.

(not necessarily follow BTW - having them in a fixed frame to the top of the window would be plenty enough!)

By fixed frame do you mean like the sliding box I had on the dbl site that moves as you move down the page? I think this page width is too much. But I can see what I can do about putting some of them at the footer or where those other buttons are.

Recent posts? Name the most important buttons because I don't know that I can do the whole row.

I'll put in a plug for unread posts since that one is my favorite.

My guess would be recent posts and unread posts. Maybe new items or DBL website.

Well, I took a look at the code and it doesn't look easy. If I make a mistake it will bring the whole forum down momentarily so I'll have to find a time when no one is on.

I could put one in the footer at the very bottom pretty easily.

Thanks for looking into this, WM. Much appreciated.

My votes in order: Unread, Search, Recent, all the others in no particular order.

By frame I mean a window partition that is independent of the other parts of the screen - a bit like the folder view in a Windows Explorer window. Hope this makes sense

I actually got the code three times from the geeks and none of them worked. It's not rocket science for me to know where it goes. The whole forum went down for a second. And those buttons rely on a php string because they are tied to the login so it's not a matter of just moving them to the footer. If the geeks who develop this can't figure it out....

I'll give it another go--maybe move the whole little band to the footer and then eliminate those we can live without. At least I have the list of faves.

WM, what a pain.  For what it is worth, I rarely use the buttons at the top.  I usually just scroll back up or use the "go up" button (thank GOODNESS for the "go up" button... it is a wonder that I haven't worn it out!) to the folders on the left side, and I then go to "ABOUT THE FORUM," or which ever sub-folder I'm in at the time.  Not very efficient, I guess, but I tend to hunt-and-peck all around the site (I'm one of those "visual" Mac types). I'll admit, the need to go back to the top can be frustrating when I'm in a hurry, so, putting SOMETHING at the bottom is a nice idea.  But, gracious, all of it seems hardly worth what you have to go through to get there! The site is WONDERFUL as is.  Wink

I agree - I imagined (shadows of Horatio and Hamlet here) it was a simple matter of taking the code from the top of the window and shoving it at the bottom too! Never mind getting the forum down.

I've not given up completely. I'm thinking that strip can be moved. I just tried to add one first and was unsuccessful.

Thanks Mikla.

I would keep it at the top and also at the bottom.

I don't know if this works with web designing, but I'm an Excel person, so I'll try to explain my idea as best as I can.

When you are in Excel and looking at tables of numbers with titles on the top and the side, you can freeze the panes so that you can scroll down and across the table of numbers but your titles remain fixed.  Is there something you can do in web designing to simulate that?

 Huh? Mikla

No, you did a fine job explaining.  It's just that my brain doesn't LIKE this stuff, that's all.  I'm software challenged.

I don't think so. Not in this format. I can do more with html than I can php. But actually the developers have not been able to come up with code that works. I usually don't have to ask. But I could tell this was sticky so I did. They've been really nice. It's turned out to be more complicated.
