AZ, the idea of no PMs has been discussed for this very reason.

It would have to be stored in the database somewhere.

But the only interaction I have with it is through the software. I go to php my admin, I have no idea what to do, and am afraid to. I click one thing it can all topple. I know how to implement software but I am not a programmer and do not query databases. I only buy software that does. I'm a copywriter who happens to know how to work software and design websites.

All I can tell you is that I don't read them and I don't care to. It's been months since I've looked at the rock diamond database. And I only look at the log to see if we need bandwidth which I've now put on automatic charge so I don't have to monitor even that any more.

I've never given anyone a reason to think I'm dishonest or unsavory in any way. I have no checkered past, no crimes, no drug use, no extramarital affairs. If you played Scruples with me you'd laugh. A first grader could outdo my confessions. But I can't force anyone to believe me and I won't try.

David posts diamond photos of diamonds and puts HUGE red arrows pointing out glitches. He's honest with all the cutters and they know it and respect that He can't even put on a poker face.

If you have doubts, exchange emails.

I`m sorry I started this thread because it appears to have caused a whole lot of upset to a whole lot of people who work hard for us on CDI and at DBL.
I began it for what I thought were the right reasons, I`m sorry if it developed into something which is making people feel they aren`t being trusted.
All I can say is I began the thread NOT because I don`t trust, I DO and always will do but to stop anybody else from having any doubt whatsoever that here at DBL we can have fun, make friendships, ask questions and generally chat on the PM and with nothing at all to be concerned about.
David, WM, DJM, DJ and ANNIE you have bent over backwards to answer what was intended as a general and informative question. I thank all of you and now the rest is down to everybody else. In fact my honest opinion is that CDI staff have never abused the PM`s but maybe some some forum members have, read into that what you will because frankly I`m sick of seeing innocent people having to answer for things they haven`t done.
I for one will continue to natter to my friends, ask the MODS questions, laugh with others and enquire about items by using the PM as I`ve always done.

So you're saying that you in that photo with Eliot Spitzer was a hoax Evil.

I don't want anybody to feel bad about any of this.

This forum is here for everybody to feel good.  Let's just do it

I'm thrilled you brought it up. I got an email from someone that mentioned unrest or something to the effect that people thought I was reading PMs. So it has given me a chance to say my piece.

Quite frankly, I did not know what to do. Post a thread? Send a system pm? Was it one person, a group of people, all of CDI? I have no idea. And I have no idea why any one may have thought I was reading them. I don't know what started it, where it came from, why or anything.

At least with EMJ's post I could get an idea of what might be up. She'll check and see if it has that new message has my email on it. At least I found out that every Spammer, Jane and Harry has my email upon registration. That is not a comforting thought. So hopefully EMJ will work with me and I can get it off there.

So Lynn, it was a good thing. Really. Any one that has doubts will just have to make up their own minds or make up stories.

Forgot to comment on Spitzer. I don't even know who that is! Am I that out of touch? Wait, he's the NY mayor, right. Well considering the prices he paid, I think I might have made an exception.

I think I do.  I had a conversation with a member about how when you get an email notification of a new PM, you should not reply to the email notification as that goes to you rather than the sender of the PM.  I have a feeling that wasn't fully understood and has now morphed into something it isn't.

Oh gosh!  Information OVERLOAD.  1087

Really, the initial question asked is one that, I'm sure, we've all wondered about.  Thank you ALL for the question, the comments, and the direct and timely answers.

This reminds me: when I was a girl, my mother warned me to never write or send a letter to a friend (ESPECIALLY a boyfriend) that I wouldn't want the friend's mother to read.  freakout That advice terrified me, and I've carried it around in my head all this time.  Hence, I always look over my shoulder a bit when writing online.  That being said, I love the PM feature and the accessability we have, if we want it, to one another.  I think it is one of the reasons people on this forum feel so comfortable.

Thanks you guys. I think this is getting clearer. Post any questions you have here. I will answer them.

I'll post screenshots if I need to as long as they don't jeopardize the security of CDI. If it's between the security and my good name, I'll just have to look bad. I can live with that.

titania- That is so hilarious. I think you do pretty well considering you weren't 19 when you started the internet thing. Or were you?

Thanks, WM! No...I was 19 plus 30, more or less, when I learned how to use this gadget.
I can lurk, read, post, sometimes even figure out the "quote" button, add icons. But transferring a dig. pix onto, into, whatever the right preposition is...my computer files and then putting it up on a website??? Not a clue.
(But I am good at other things in life!)

I remember my sons laughing when I bought my first pc. They said I`d probably leave it gathering dust because Mum was notorious for not understanding " gadgets ".

My sons ask ME questions. I'm loving it. And they know not to pull anything because I check You Tube.
