We went to San Diego back at the end of August 1997.  I don't remember much as I was in a daze - it was the day Princess Diana died.  DH was furious as he felt my crying fits and somber mood ruined the day for him - it was his birthday!  I do remember the beautiful weather and Shamu - he was awesome!

So glad you have figured out photobucket.  Not least because it means lots of sparkly pics!

Nice Polled Hereford, Trinkette!

Daddy had a Polled Hereford bull when I was a kid.  His name was Vic, and he was a good guy, by which I mean that he wouldn't try to kill you if you went in his pasture.    Cheesy  (Not so the one after that-- I can't remember what he was-- not Hereford, though-- just remember that I was warned to always, always keep a fence between me and him.  He didn't stick around too long :-).)

My friend has a herd of Belted Galloways. They are as mean as heck. Even the cute little calves love to kick bystanders and would be happy to trample you if they got half the chance. They look amazing though. Black cattle with a big white 'belt' round them, with the calves like little minatures. He keeps them in a field next to a main road and I think they're worthy of an Arts Council grant! They really do look like public art installations. I'll see if I can grab some pics at the weekend.

Ok, I'll see if I can get some photos at the weekend. Oh, not this weekend. DH has our camera and he has left the country. I'll see if I can upload from my cellphone camera.  They really do look sweet from a safe distance.

Mrs. M., there was a herd of Belted Galloways just down the road from me, but I think they've been moved recently. I call them The Oreos. I LOVE the way they look.  I haven't dealt with them personally, so, I don't know if they're mean or not. This particular farm with The Oreos also had some Long Horns, and all kinds of weird mixed breeds... quite the menagerie.

Robin, I can't say if this red bull (please take no offense folks, but his name is BIG RED, really) is purebred or not.  My fiancé has mostly all Black Angus bulls, and pure Black Angus and mixed Black Angus cows. BIG RED is the gene pool mixer, and makes excellent Black Angus-cross cattle (usually black with white faces). In my opinion, he is, by far, the coolest bull of the group. And, he is the top bull.  But, he's very calm.  If he thinks you have food, BIG RED will come right up to you, even follow you around (of course, all the other bulls follow him around, so you need to be a bit attentive!).  In this area,  Angus rules, so I'm quite pleased that BIG RED has shown-up the other, more highly regarded, all-black bulls!  You know how some people (and animals) have "It?" That hard-to-put-your-finger-on-it quality that makes them shine above others? Like, star-quality, or charisma?  BIG RED's got it.  You just can't help but notice him.  Even covered in flies... he looks mah-ve-lous! (Now, how many of us can say THAT?).  Wink

Um, Trinkette? Could you be noticing him because he is a FREAKIN ENORMOUS GREAT BIG BULL???

He does look special actually! Especially with his tiara.

The Oreos! That is such a good name for them. I think they are truly picturesque, but everyone I know who's had them says they are every bit as mean as my friend's herd. Apparently they're famous for it, yet they look so innocent. I'll try to get photos, because they look like sculptures in the field!

Huh.  Mrs. M., I'm surprised to hear that they are mean, because The Oreos DO look so darned cute. Well, now, I don't want one anymore!

I don't think that it is the tiara that makes BIG RED so special, because he DOES go out without it. And, I don't think it is his size; I had a dachshund that had the "It" thing going on, and HE certainly wasn't big.  dontknow  No, I think you're either born with It, or you're not. Don't you think?

LOL! I imagine that BIG RED still looks fine without his tiara. Very sensible of him not to wear it all the time. With his active lifestyle, that could be tricky to clean. Grin

I've been looking around the house and yard and I can conclude that the cat has it, the dog doesn't. I really can't tell with the hens. They all look much the same to me.

Don't let me put you off the Cookie Cows, Trinkette. Yours might be sweet tempered. (I've never met anything, man nor beast that came out of Galloway with a sweet temper, but you just never know! Grin)

Ah hahahahahahaha!  You know what they say, Mrs. M., beauty is as beauty does!  I'll take a friendly, calm BIG RED in a tiara over a snarly old Oreo any day!

But, with a BIG RED of your own, Mrs. M., my oh my, how your garden would grow! Afterall, a BIG RED comes with "free" fertilizer.  So, even though your garden may be small, remember, it is not SIZE that counts...  Wink

(And no, no, no! You may not take the tiara.  Hey, you can not take my BIG RED for that matter either!)

Actually, I've kept sheep in the garden. It was a long story, but I looked after them for a friend for a few days. They decimated the place. I only have around 1 acre, but it took long enough to clean that up when they left!

Not sure my dog will ever be an effective guard dog. I had to keep her in to stop the sheep from worrying her.
