Okay, at the beginning of August, I'll start to clean out picture duplicates. Those are photos we have other copies of on the threads. I know this is not particularly convenient, but we have more traffic and page loads and photos in one month than most forums do in a year.

I am happy about that! To be so lucky.

However, what you usually do is "archive". It seems weird to archive February and March of 2007 when we are only in July 2007. So I have to cut the fat and the potential server drag somehow.

So photos you really love need to be put in the photo gallery. I'm NOT eliminating them all but at some point I will need to archive--probably around February so get them while you can find them.

I WILL POST A WEEKS NOTICE BEFORE TRIMMING duplicate photos. Thanks you guys for cleaning out your pms. The forum is whizzing fast today as a result.

Where you can use the
Code:
[img][/img]
tags for internet photos is great. But that is NOT, I repeat NOT to discourage photo posting of diamonds and rings. It's only if you have the choice.

Sorry WM but dummy here doesnīt understand.  How can I delete my messages?  Do you mean the messages I have at the top of the page or in my posts.  Sorry to be so dense but I think I told you that I didnīt even know what internet was two years ago and although I have progressed quite a bit I still get a bit puzzled.  As soon as I have understood I will only be too happy to co-operate.  Thanks.

Hi Joia!  She means clearing out your PMs - your messages that you can access if you click on the link at the top right of the page.  Just go through and delete any that you don't want/need and don't forget to do your Outbox too.  Both of mine were over 600 today............*hangs head in shame*...............!!!

Ok, question about the photos... I noticed that some (robin, David, WM) are able to attach pictures so they're embodied in the thread.  Where as mine, always take a while to load and you click on them to enlarge...

how do I do what you do? I read the tutorial and I'm confooosed!! I see there's a picture icon to the right of youtube.. but I'm dumb!

  <----

what do I do???

Yes, I mean PMs. And DJ was personally dragging down the server! Citizens arrest! Kidding. Like DJ could do anything wrong or malicious. Nah.

There is a little picture icon on the tool bar

Click it and in between the code insert http://webadressofphoto.jpg. It would look like the code in the blue bar below.

Code:
[img]http://webadressofphoto.jpg[/img]

Don't anyone fret about questions. This is the place to post them.

I don't see why photobucket wouldn't work.

Also, if you upload one copy of the picture to the photo gallery section of the site you can reference it from there.  I think that was one of WM's intentions in creating that area.

Exactly annie. If you right click on a photo gallery photo, you will see "properties". That is the address of the photo. If you copy that and paste it in the center of those tags, you'll have a nice, big photo. I think photobucket does work.

I right clicked the photo in the photo gallery and copied the address from the properties.

I click on the photo picture on the tool bar.

I insert the code in the tag like so

Code:
[img]http://coloreddiamond.info/gallery/1_06_06_07_1_15_03.jpg[/img]

And it produces this STUNNING photo below. (Doggone that person has great taste!)

Posting photos is fine. It's just the duplicates. And quite frankly, I was guilty of dupes. I stopped doing it sooner only because I go through the folder and see the duplicates--many of which were my own. That's when I figured out that I needed to use the url after posting it once.

Now on the site, if you are on the merchandise for sale part, snag the photo from David's description. Because sometimes we delete the thumbnail files since they are in a database.

YOU WILL NOT BE SHOT AND QUARTERED FOR POSTING A DUPLICATE. WE WILL NOT THROW YOU IN THE PIT OF VIPERS. WE WILL NOT HOG TIE YOU TO A TREE A THROW HOT TAR ON YOU.

Along with clicking properties and copying it from there, you can also just select "Copy image location" from the menu.

I find that to be easier since you don't need to highlight anything.

Phew!  It's was a workout cleaning out my PM box - I think it should count as a finger strength workout for the weightloss challenge thread...  Wink

I'm not quite finished, but I'm well on my way!

Hey folks -

As part of our trim down effort, I'm going to be going through some treads and adding photo references as part of the text (as described above) and then deleting the attachments.

So, if you see that I've edited a post of yours, have no worries, I'm just moving the pictures around to save space!

Not sure if it's only on my end, but it's 4:20 am EST and it took me 2 minutes and 17 seconds to post a short reply in a thread.  I am guessing it's only CDI as the other sites I'm surfing are very quick.

I only have 1 pm in my box (I'm anal about deleting asap) but it's driving me NUTS!!!!

Anyone else having this problem?

I notice there were some issues in the logs early in the a.m. If they do maintenance on the server (ie kernel check, reboot, upgrade php) they do it then. Often it doesn't interrupt things but I saw that it did this morning. It's running fine for me today. I optimized some tables to speed things up.
