Sanchica, you might do better to look for a transitional cut diamond rather than an OEC if you don't like the open culets. Transitional cuts are between the OECs and modern RBCs. Though I have seen some OECs with very small open culets so maybe you'll be able to find one that speaks to you.

I agree with MM, I think you should stock it!!

IHADP, I too love those earrings GL bought and have been kicking myself as well!!

Mikla, I love that ring you posted as well. I'm a sucker for step cuts of all shapes and sizes! My er is an asscher and I love it. I've had it for a long time but its still amusing to me how many people around here still don't know what they are. When I tell them, some ask if its a new cut. I have heard a few advertisements on the radio recently that jewelers are "featuring" the asscher cut. I guess they are getting ready to become really popular.

i agree with sparkly about being able to see your finger through the stone. total turn off. it also reminds me of walking up to someones open front door and being able to look out the open back door into their backyard.  Grin

You'd hate my house then! Its an Edwardian style, built in 1902, somewhat similar to a shot-gun and I have as many doors and windows open as possible!! They were constructed that way to maximize the air-flow through the houses here in the south, which I'm sure was crucial prior to AC!! Can you imagine what it was like back then? Those poor women....wearing layers and layers of cotton and wool, hardly any skin showing (wouldn't dare be considered a strumpette!), 95 degrees and the humidity so thick you could cut it with a butter knife....and no AC!!??!!

OK, I have to be a sourball here.  Back to the windowed EC ring - and I realize that some of you, jewelelk and IHADP, really dig this ring. Now, I've had a couple of days to think about it.  And, the more I think about it, the more the shallow, windowed cut bugs me.  Obviously, I haven't seen the ring in person, so I can't judge how it performs in terms of brilliance.  But, even if it IS a performer, it is just TOO FAR off the mark for me. I realize that expensiveness is relative, and I am always willing to find something "outside of the box" so to speak, but, for me, if I'm spending $15K on a ring or a diamond, I want it to be well cut. And I want platinum.

I don't even own this ring and it is fretting me! David either needs to get rid of it, or someone needs to purhase it (and LOVE it) QUICK so I can stop fussing about it.  Roll Eyes

For what it is worth, I LOVE being able to look "through" a house.  Oddly enough, seeing the outside (and the light) is what draws most people into and through a space... (but, still, the RING is not for me).

I'm going to eat my words here, as I simply could not bear to give this ring back to the cutter.
I really do love it.

Hahahahaha! David, you're KEEPING it!  To funny. Mind you everyone, you CAN look through the bottom of the center stone and read whatever paper is on the desk below.  It is kind of a blast, actually.  Also, from the side, the ring sits very low to your finger because the depth of the stone is so shallow. But, it definitely has the  wow2 factor. And, we all sat around and talked about this piece probably more than any other.

So, if you sit in an office or at a desk all day, and you'd enjoy some mindless distraction, or you like to entertain friends with your jewelry at cocktail parties, and/or you want a very attractive, substantial diamond ring, that definately has  wow2 AND you are not concerned about textbook diamond cutting, then, this ring might just be PERFECT for you.  I guess, in a way, it's oddness (and bang for your buck) are what really make this ring unique and special. You definitely won't see another like it. And, it really is very pretty on the hand. To be fair, the window is more difficult to discern when the ring is on your finger than it is when you hold the ring and just look at it (through it?).  I that doubt most people seeing it on your hand would notice (well, except for those quirky CDIers...)

Certainly, it is not or everyone.  But, it IS for someone. And, as some of you have already written, she will love it.

I suppose, taking a chance on different stuff like this is what sets David and his stock apart from the rest of the pack... I gotta hand it to you David, you've got chutzpah (ummm, that's a good thing..)!

Well, it is definitely a ring with "personality" and one WILL be noticed wearing it.  That being said, I'm still not going to be the one to wear it... as I wrote in my very first post on this thread (before I saw the ring) the window and the uber-shallowness STILL fret persnickity me. But, it is a looker, for sure, and I enjoyed my time with it.

I guess choosing a ring like this, or passing it by, comes down to where your priorities lie...

I'm with you, Trinkette.  I'm sure this is someone's dream, just not mine.  That's why they say, "Variety is the spice of life."

WM-I agree!!! Smiley

It certainly is NO run of the mill, everyday ring---there are plenty of those out there(no DBL rings of course-they all speak for themselves!), this one has got lots and lots of personality and truly is one of a kind-where my preferences lie!  I'd actually love to see it in person-oh to dream.

DJM-unfortunately no time for a NY trip right now, but maybe I could send D my other DBL rings to get polished and he'd loan her to me for the duration!?!?!  Grin
