HI everyone!
Generally, we buy most of our diamonds from larger cutters- site holders. This means they buy their diamonds from DeBeers.

But we've also got a lot of friends that buy rough on a smaller scale.
This past week, one of our connections in Israel mentioned he had a friend in New York who wanted to show us a few things.
Based on some of the amazing bargains I've found from this guy in the past I was like "WHAT TIME??"

We ended up buying a two stone parcel.
Total weight is 2.30cts.
There's one marquise, and one pear shape.
BOTH are a gorgeous light lemon yellow- both are SI- maybe the pear is VS2.
BOTH are really well cut.

We bought them "straight off the wheel"- so they've not yet been to GIA.
It's really great to be able to find such stones because once the larger companies have them they DO send them to GIA, and price them accordingly. This cutter accepted our ( very low) offer because he only needs to make back what he spent buying the rough, and a small profit.
The larger places we buy from have very fair pricing- but it's based on the market price, as opposed to what they paid for the rough.

In appreciation of the amazing group of friends we have here on CDi we're going to offer them to you, as we bought them- based only on our cost, and at a special price for readers and posters here.

I'll have photos and stats up later today- the special price will be $2550 per carat- the marquise is 1.16cts ( $2958), making the pear 1.14cts ($2907)

This offer is VERY short term- after we submit them to GIA tomorrow, we'll have to price them accordingly....stay tuned for photos

Looking forward to seeing them.

How about a pendant to match these yellow marquise earrings? Oh my!

Um, I just re-read that first post. These prices are seriously good. I would grab them both if I possibly could right now.

Here's a first view- from behind.
I know I've said this before, but it bears repeating...
Diamonds ...well cut diamonds, and these are two extraordinarily well cut ones- look great from behind. They have a lot of beauty this way for me.....

They are certainly appealing from this angle, but mainly I just want to see their faces!

You beat me to it! Perfect.

I really, really love the marquise. I'm developing a bit of a thing about marquises, having overlooked them a little in the past.

Great question SV!
There are many different causes of a "bow-tie"
If you read online you may hear the term "head obstruction" mentioned as the ( or a) cause.
From my perspective, it's more about the facet pattern, and how it's laid out.
More on bow-ties.
The pear shape does exhibit a lot of contrast- I don;t see it as a negative - not a "severe" bowtie.
I'll see about a video of that one....

I'm almost tempted to make something like SO3373 for both of the pear, and marquise.....

Anyway, the stones are back from GIA.
Interesting when I read my own words, at first I thought one was VS2, the other SI1, then I got stricter when I did the data entry portion of inventory take in...and graded them SI2 and I1.
Anyway, both got a color stronger, and a grade cleaner than my second prediction.

Of course that does affect the value.

To anyone reading this who wants to buy them, any time in the future, remind me of this thread, and we'll honor the prices, with $150 added for the cost of the GIA.

I can see why you would be tempted to set them that way!  I think their size (about 1ct) lends itself well to a halo.

I'm really taken with the marquise. Such a beautiful stone. Hmm.
