We had a visit today from man called Roger Dery.
He is a cutter that sources much of the rough at the actual mines.
This means we have accurate origin info- as well as confirmation that the stones were not heated.

We've got Peridot from Pakistan, blue zircon from Cambodia, Spessertitie Garnet from Nigeria, Pink Spinel from Tanzania...and the aforementioned Ruby, from Burma (he's a small guy at .95cts- but oh so lovely)

and more!!

Yay!  I've been looking into this for awhile now as I want to upgrade my sapphire ring.  Apparently Richard Dery is one of the best precision cutters around.  I can't wait to see the stones!

Thanks Mikla!
Richard is a great guy- he cuts these stones beautifully.
Start with this guy....
It's amazing how well cut this stone is. The combination of keeping the bottom of the stone full- to retain the color- while finding ways to close the bottom in such a way that a window is avoided.

Wow, an alexandrite! My money tree is in bud but not ready yet for my mens ring project.
( Alexandrite is the only stone above a fancy diamond on my wish list )
I wonder what degree does of colour change does this one show when it has such a strength of blue? I don't mind inclusions at all, and I'm sure the cut is the best possible from the rough by the pedigree.

Love the garnet, my birthstone incidentally, and the purple sapphire.

David, is the price correct on that sapphire?? It can't be, surely?

This is great. DH worked in Africa for several years and he's always liked the idea of buying a stone from near where he lived in Kenya or Zimbabwe. Hell, how big can a continent actually be? I reckon Tanzania is close enough, right? Grin

I admit I was so taken with that garnet that I didn't even notice the other beauties.  My mom's birthstone was garnet and I always am on the lookout for a good one.

Jen heck Tanzania is right next door to Kenya so I say that's good.  It's between Zimbabwe and Kenya so I say it's perfect location Wink
