We start with a 1.31ct Old Mine Brilliant. This stone was cut by Old Mine/Cushion specialist, Yoram F.in conjunction with Diamonds by Lauren. The goals of the project:
1) Apply the basic look of an old mine brilliant on natural light yellow rough
2) Preserve the antique feel, yet cut in such a way to maximize colored light return- as opposed to the methodology of cutting color colorless light return.

The difficulty in grading these light yellows is evident- I will respectfully say that I feel GIA is being too tough on this stone- maybe due to the fluorescence.
It certainly looks darker than a W-X to me.

We put this between another pair of OMB's cut for us by Yoram.
They are a perfect match in measurements.
I see one as a J, and the other as a K.

One of my most favorite, or least favorite parts of the job is photo selection. I love to do it sometimes- but sometimes it's so hard to choose.
I always take a lot of shots and select the best , most representative ones.
Instead of culling, I put all the candiates in a folder- please have a look- which three would you select out of that folder?.

The three I like most are these - whether they are "representative" is a completely different question, since I haven't seen the stones!

And if I could add another pair, I would pick these...

I like 2, 4, 5, 7, and 8.

I really like how this is a light yellow and at least half of the pictures make it look more intense. Pretty, pretty, pretty.

Where's that lotto ticket again? ;p

Fantastic ring!  I like all of the pictures, but if I had to cut a few out, they would be #3 and #4.

How can you showcase your DBL branded stones better on the website?  It's something that makes DBL unique and sets it apart from all other custom jewelers.  In case I haven't said, these cuts are fabulous, old-fashioned with a kick.  Facets that remind me a little of of step cuts.  And of course you can't beat the quality of a DBL setting.  Claws, check.  Classic three stone, check.  Platinum and 18k, check.  Mmmmm.

Ok...I said i wasn't coming back, but my HUGE EGO made me come back and post this.

I am sorry, but I was starting to feel like I was watching an episode of "The Emperor's New Clothes" and I was going to have to be the kid that said "HEY EMPEROR, YOU ARE NAKED!"

David, because you are NOT paying me and my HUGE EGO for marketing advice I have to be honest.
I know WM is lovely, and maybe I was frustrated and took it the wrong way. (I posted that against my HUGE EGO's wishes.)

David is a genius and I think he made some waves in the diamond community.

David saw a niche....he sold Fancy Colored Diamonds, YES...but he also saw a
market for the U-V,W-X,Y-Z diamonds that were pretty but getting treated like
the "red headed step child."  Up until Diamondsbylauren, it was either
questionable diamond dealers that tried to pass U-V,W-X,Y-Z's off as Fancy
Yellows or people like "Bregg Bruth" that put a fancy setting around them, but just
ignored the fact that they were not Fancy Colored Diamonds.

Yellow diamonds, before Diamondsbylauren, were not for the average person.   You
could see fancy colored diamonds in high end stores and in Sotheby's catalogs, but not in a price range that most people could afford.
Soooo, David has the genius idea to take photos to show the world just how
beautiful these  U-V,W-X,Y-Z diamonds are.....and it infuriates some of the
vendors on Pricescope.  IMO they are totally baffled and jealous.  Like brats they fuss and
whine...."BUT THOSE AREN'T FANCY VIVID SO PEOPLE CAN'T LIKE THOSE" but people
had EYES and they could see for themselves in David's pictures that they were
pretty diamonds.

So, in my opinion, David is inspiring people to get the yellow diamond
they have always wanted or never knew they wanted.  The vendors on PS and in other jewelry stores don't know what to do with David.   David doesn't sell diamonds based on
peoples' insecurities or fears...he sells because he is passionate about
diamonds and he has the ability to capture in pictures what evokes the emotion
that people get when they "see" a diamond on a sunny day.
Diamondsbylaurn F-s with other vendors' GAME.  The other vendors take flat dull sterile pictures of
their diamonds and then say "you know my diamond will sparkle, because I have a
computer that tells you so."  David sells diamonds because people have EYES.   If you
read David's ads you have to say to yourself "Ok, this dude loves diamonds and I
can see by the pictures that they are gorgeous.  So if David bought this
diamond, then it is worth selling my bike/car/kidney to buy it."

If there are people out there that like diamonds half as much as I do, they have
some of David's pictures saved to their computers.  They have had his pictures
as screen savers and computer backgrounds.  When a friend or coworker says  "why
a yellow diamond?" do you guys go to GOOFSOLDMOLD's site or do you go to
Diamondsbylauren?

Last but not least, Diamondsbylauren gets a branded cut diamond.  David, I know you are pushed to the limit with time and a growing family....but with my marketing background, it just does not
make sense that anyone would take hours and days to capture the sparkle and beauty of
a .75 carat marquise, but then cut corners on your branded cut.
THIS IS YOUR BRANDED DIAMOND, so these images need to be THE MOST beautiful.
For example, let's look at a branded purse.  Anyone can buy a purse.  So you can buy a
generic purse from a high volume chain store or you can buy a Chanel for much, much more.

Does this make people want to spend THOU$ANDS on a purse:

or this:

So are there going to be random girls in Iowa, Washington, South GA using this
picture as their screen saver?

OR this one?

For the record this was my screen saver for THREE YEARS!
THREE YEARS, PEOPLE!

I am sure this will be taken down...so its been nice knowing you all.

GG- thank you!!
I would never want to take your post down.
Thank you for saying those things- which I see as a HUGE compliment.

I will continue to use every tool I have- if we have both of those photos it's far more descriptive than either by itself.

The last photo in your post was taken "back in the day"
We sold many millions of dollars of diamonds based on those photos- but today, they're teenie and a totally different look than the Hi-Res shots we use today.
Of course that does not diminish their appeal...maybe time to whip out the old camera Wink

Seriously- it's a compromise act. We need to devote time to so many things- for example a website renovation- 2 years in the making, but hopefully going forward full steam ahead now.....

GIA, I can't imagine your posts will be taken down.  You are fully supportive of DBL and are very constructive in how you express your opinions. I don't believe this forum works like PS where those with differing opinions are lashed, bashed and promptly shot down.

Because I analyze my purchases, I do like the lightbox sterile shots for assessing the stones and seeing the mountings.  Yet they drive me crazy because the colour is so far off.  I fully agree that they do not represent the stone as it would be seen IRL. I think I had expressed the colour issues when David first bought it.  Purchasing based on those alone would be very, very difficult for me.  My favorites are those that best represent the stone to the eye and those that give a clear view of the facets and mounting.  But that is what I need, maybe not everyone.  I rely on multiple shots, videos, endless questions, David standing on his head.....to create a comfort level for my purchase.  Which I can say other vendors do not oblige.
