A few years ago, if someone had asked me which of the older style cuts was my favorite, I'd have probably ranked Old European Cuts last. Actually, they'd have been last out of ALL diamond cuts, modern and antique. Then, I purchased a little pair of exquisite OECs, and I have been completely captivated by the pair ever since. I can't take my eyes off of them. I know that for some, kozibe is undesirable. However, for me, a distinctive, well-patterned stone always makes me smile. I can't take my eyes off it. Add to that, I am a total FIRE freak... I am hooked. *SIGH*

OECs have such a distinct and unique glitter and glow to them.  Parting with this one pains me, but gotta keep my eyes on the prize!  LOL   4 4 4

Yes, I have such trouble with the "eye on the prize" method of acquisition...  I ALWAYS get distracted.  1087

The Kozibe effect is the visible reflection of the culet through the table.

In fact I should have said "through the table and crown"

Well, it's neutral: some people like it, for others it's a turn-off. It also depends on the extent of it - some diamonds have so many Kozibe reflections they look like little colanders...

I quite like it, as long as it doesn't get distracting.

I agree, it can be the BEST thing about a well-cut stone. For me, the good ones are unforgettable. On a not-so-well-cut or terribly unsymmetrical diamond, it can look like a jumble. I like an organized pattern of chunks.

Little colanders... good one OMC!

hmmm... not sure i get it. i thought i new all about diamonds from being on this forum, but i guess not. i know i like big chunky flashes. i guess a colander effect would not be for me. i confess though, that i have always wanted to see a hearts and arrows diamond upclose and personal, but i guess that is not even the same thing. now i know i'm confused    tard Blond-Moment Exit-Stage-Right

Kozibe - the round "dots" scattered symmetrically around the diamond:

H&A - which to be seen distinctly need a special kind of viewer eliminating some reflected light. I don't know for sure this is an H&A, but if it isn't, it's durn close. You can make out the arrows pretty well, and some of the hearts, if you know what you are looking for.

The viewer and what you see in it:

thanks for all the info OMC! for some reason when i think of you, i think of ' the continental' spoof that they do on SNL with christopher walken. i picture you with smoking jacket, a glass of champagne and a european accent.  Grin

D, did anyone we know buy the OEC ?

I had never heard that term before but I admit I do love it when there is a good reflection like that with the culet!   Just super cool and unique to me when it is a nice stone.

You can have the H&A stone though.  They bore me  angel
